Content suggestions and issues thread

Hello I’m here to make some suggestions for vocab additions. The first is 蘇る, which uses the kun reading for a kanji that’s already taught on Wanikani.

The others will require new kanji to be added:
嫉妬 (top 2600 frequency) could also add 妬む and 妬ましい
頷く (top 3100) WK already teaches 肯く, but 頷く is more common
呟く(top 3100)

These are words that I constantly encounter both while reading and listening, so I think it would be worth considering adding them here.

Yeah teaching 蘇 but not 蘇る is truly perplexing.

I’ll throw 賑やか in, it’s even jouyou! 所詮 too while we’re at it.

Thanks for the suggestions!

We actually already have some of these listed as items to add in the future with varying degrees of priority:

  • 蘇る: High Priority
  • 嫉妬: Medium Priority
  • 妬む: Medium Priority
  • 妬ましい: Not currently listed so I’ll mention it to the team
  • 頷く: Medium Priority
  • 呟く: Medium Priority
  • 賑やか: High Priority
  • 所詮: Medium Priority

Some more additional suggestions with the theme that they could be common enough to include in WaniKani.

First, food:

  • 餃子, literally everywhere when you walk in a Japanese city. (The most important word on this list.)
  • 鮨, I saw this quite a lot despite 寿司 being used more

Narrator in books (lower in priority than 頷く, 呟く and 覗く):

  • 睨む
  • 嘲る
  • 躊躇
  • 躊躇う
  • 曖昧
  • 罵倒

Murder mystery staples:

  • 痺れる
  • 麻痺
  • 卑怯

Hardware:

Animals:

I have most of those in my deck so I concur. I even added 餃 two days ago!

罵る is quite common too.

A suggestion for 教会 to be added. I encountered it while reading for the ABBC, and I was surprised that it’s not taught, especially considering the kanji are both within early levels.

Also, about 支店, it’s taught as support shop means branch office. Why not directly go with the meaning of branch that was learned along with the kanji and the radical?

And concerning 引き分け, somehow I realized I’d misunderstood the meaning of tie as in tying shoelaces. This is obviously due to me being inattentive, but there might be a way to rework the phrasing to make that same confusion less likely to happen.

Hi there! We are a bit late in responding to this one — our apologies! — but we’ve updated the context sentences for 精一杯. Thanks again!

翌 kanji accepts “the new” as an answer (Primary meaning: The Next), even though it should not.

配信 not that i need help with remembering this, but just surprised it’s not on the list with how common this word is. And both of those kanjis are seen in the lower levels of WK, its inclusion as a vocab might help more ppl remember them.

都合 accepts “conference” as an answer. I don’t think it should.

囚われる is I believe more common that the other vocab for and while it’s a different reading than the one currently taught it’s the same as 捕らわれる・捕らえる so it’s not too difficult to memorize I think.

Oh yeah. I forget if it’s Genki or Minna no Nihongo, but にぎやか is taught in the first or second chapter as an opposite for 静か
