Been thinking lately about picking up some workbooks so I can actively practice writing skills. I know Japan has many little workbooks aimed for children and other learners, but I have no idea even what these are called or if they are worth picking up. Does anyone have experience using these? Are certain series better than others?
Are you looking to improve handwriting/penmanship or looking for like writing practice (grammar fill in the blank, essay prompts, etc.)?
A bit of both I guess! Primarily the second one I guess. I think writing can help me a lot with memorization, but I find it harder to motivate myself to just write kanji in a notebook over and over again. I think maybe having a proper workbook to move through would help a lot and push me to tackle stuff I’m not usually comfortable with.
If you’re still at the beginner level N5/N4, then the Genki Workbooks should be good enough practice.
As for how Japanese kids learn the language, I found this article with links to native content: How Japanese Children Learn Kanji | Nippon.com
