Bookwalker is the online store of Kadokawa publisher, so you can use the app to read ebooks you bought from them. I don’t think you can record your own books in it, though (or at least, I never tried and never accidentally bumped into that feature).
Bookmeter is also from Kadokawa, you can use it to keep track of your books and reading and stuff. So you won’t find media in there, just information about media.
Yeah, I guess that Bookwalker won’t do what I want (but I’ve been meaning to take advantage of their free e-book access offerings, so I will have to spend some quality time with the app).
And I will continue looking for ways to install Booklog and Bookmeter, either on the Sony or on one of my other devices, along with checking out other possible scanning and ISBN lookup solutions.
Interestingly, even though the app that I installed from google play showed both Bookwalker and Bookmeter in the title, it seems that I do have the hoped-for Bookmeter functionality through the app - the ‘about this app’ text in the app that I installed on the Xperia appears to indicate that it is capable of scanning: So I will need to investigate further, but it looks like I actually did install Bookmeter (!)..

I have actually managed to scan the ISBN barcode from one book, after following the directions within the app on the Xperia (in Japanese).
I will need to spend more time understanding how to navigate through and use the app, as well as how to use Bookmeter on the web. But here is that first scanned-in book in the web view (I haven’t figured out how to screen capture the app on the Xperia, but it’s easy enough for me to capture screens on the web)
I’m hoping that import and export of book lists will be a simple process, but I haven’t gotten that far in my understanding.
Supposedly Booklog.jp is better in that department than Bookmeter, but I don’t know enough detail to know whether or not what Bookmeter offers is sufficient.
(And I don’t yet know anything about natively’s import and export options).
But I’ll get there soon (he predicted, optimistically)
tbh never checked import options…there is an export but … hmmm suppose it could be done but no clue how if it’s possible with existing tools…suspect not…at least not from a spreadsheet w/o manual help from the team
For this one, I keyed in the ISBN for a manual lookup (ISBN-13 with no ISBN prefix or dashes, just the numbers), and did a search - it found the book, and with one further click I registered it to my collection.
When you’re scanning the ISBN you can choose to indicate whether you have read the book, or you are currently reading the book, or (I need to look up one kanji character to be sure about this one) you can register it as a book that you own, or you can (I think) indicate that it’s on your wishlist.
I don’t think that I had those options when manually keying in the ISBN, but maybe I missed that part somehow.
So far, anyway, despite the hurdles that I had to get through in order to get started, it is much better than what Libib was giving me.
