Can a young adult refer to themselves or be called as 女の子 (Onna no Ko) informally?

I was wondering as I reading a manga where an 18 year old was called that

further a character whose a young adult was taking a bath and she said “skincare is important for girls” and she used the term 女の子 (Onna no Ko?

So can this be used by young adults in this context?
