Beginner advice and tips

Hi everyone! I was recently motivated to start my journey learning Japanese as I’m visiting Japan in a month. Now I know that’s no where near enough time to even grasp a fragment of the language, but this motivation has had me studying a little everyday and it’s something I want to keep up indefinitely. I’ve recently reached level 2 here on Wanikani, and Tofugu has been helping me tremendously with their hiragana and katakana guide. What I want to ask to everyone is, aside from WaniKani and Tofugu, is there any advice and tips of maybe other avenues of study, or just tips and tricks that helped you when you first began? Mistakes I should avoid? What you wish you would have known or done differently when beginning your journey? Maybe even books to pick up or podcasts to listen to? I’ll gladly take ANY advice in any way shape or form so please hit me with anything.

Welcome to Wanikani!
I really think you should read the following. They helped me tremendously when I was first starting:

Also, there’s other’s level 60 celebration and study logs, reading them is really inspiring.

For a great free course focused on “can-do” list lessons, search for ‘irodori’ on this forum, and check it out.

Traveling to Japan soon as a beginner, I recommend to search for ‘aisatsu’ and learn a few of those before your trip.

(I forgot to like your post, so I fixed it) Even though jprspereira mentions burnout, seeing a real example was really eye-opening (sometimes we tend to overlook things). So thank you!

Yes Aisatsu! Thank you, I looked it up and it resulted on me making a notes page on my phone dedicated to it. It will help me a lot.
