Bamboo Shoots

I’m pretty sure chutes is a common/primary spelling of shoots

“shoot” can be an alternative spelling of “chute” but a “chute” does not have the same meaning as this kind of shoot.

One of the definitions of “shoot” is “a young branch or sucker springing from the main stock of a tree or other plant.”

And another definition is “variant spelling of chute”

But the definitions of “chute” don’t include anything about plants.

Looks like I’ve been spelling it incorrectly for years. Bamboo arguably does convey water, but yeah I guess that’s a stretch.

Haha, yeah, a bamboo chute is certainly possible, and you could spell it bamboo shoot, but it would be different from a 竹の子

have to be honest, i’ve never heard shoot used in the sense of chute before :o

makes the term ‘turkey shoot’ seem much more disturbing…

Bamboo chute would be 竹製の樋. Or at least, that’s the phrasing that Wikipedia uses in the 流し素麺 article. :slightly_smiling_face:
