I was in Japanese class for three hours and the colours changed and turned back again? Too bad I didn’t get to see the new colours, but judging from the screenshots some parts were bad and some were good. I liked the green. Also the new logo and dashboard look a bit cleaner on mobile, I guess

With dark mode, it looks pretty nice. Timeline script seems to work intermittently, where if I go into reviews then back, it works, but if I refresh, it stops working until I go back into reviews and back. Self study script seems to work perfectly fine.
I dunno whether it’s one of my scripts, or whether it’s the dark mode, but the colours look perfectly fine on my display.
The actual layout seems fine, I just wish it didn’t break some script compatibility, and I think the colours are not too bad (but a bit too saturated when full-screen).

Just missed all of this because I was asleep (darn you, JST!)
I actually like the new logo, and here’s a quick edit I made that makes it easier to tell it’s the Crabigator, for anyone still struggling. A little disappointed I didn’t get to try the new colors out for myself, but I like the other changes!

I still don’t like the eyes, but that is a lot easier to look at.
It feels like it needs something slightly goofy to be “right”, though.

Change for the sake of change is rarely a good thing. The first rule of design is “form follows function”. Does this redesign enhance the usability of the site? I can’t see how it does. It just makes me dislike it a little.

it is as though the person making the color changes has no concept of color theory or design basics. I don’t mind the logo and I don’t mind the color changes but together they are hideous. A yellow based red and a yellow based green with pink. And blue. And purple. It is like those shirts with text in ten different fonts. It is just plain ugly.
I’m actually okay with most of the changes. I didn’t see the pincers either until someone else pointed it out - I thought the new logo was cute with the tiny arms lol.
HOWEVER, please make an ACCESSIBLE version of the colors. I am having a very hard time even noticing the text in many places, and even though I know it’s there, it’s nearly impossible to read. Green on green? Blue on blue? Purple on purple???
If anyone knows of a script/style I could use to make wanikani more readable, please let me know

Edit to say that I only saw the new colors for a little bit (didn’t mind them much) and these colors above are the old ones. I’ve always had the readability issue.

i also genuinely like this look better, the logo has a really slick retro vibe, but dear god did my trust issues ever flare up when i refreshed the page. it’s the internet equivalent of when you’re a kid and your dad comes home with his beard shaved off and you think a strange man has replaced him and you cry inconsolably for an hour.

Does anyone have any idea how the new colour changing icon for the lesson and review count function exactly? What number does it consider good/bad and when does it change? I have some thoughts on that side of things so if someone can figure it out either by behavior or code, page me.

The logo was fine but I felt the colors didn’t fit the rest of the theme before.

Yeah, I totally agree. This fits in nicely with the existing elements.
I really want the lessons/reviews buttons back on the main page. That way I can refresh the page and immediately see if I have new reviews.
@CyrusS, does the box turn red when you’re above 42+ lessons/reviews? Does it give green under that value?
Because I really think 42 is too lower of a number, no matter at what speed you go. You got 50 reviews? That can be done in 10 minutes for a lot of people. In other words, it’s a pretty fast “problem” to solve. Seeing the red there gives emphasis to the idea that you’re doing something wrong, which you totally aren’t.

Man, I liked having the lesson/review number over on the left and everything else on the right. With the way things are now, it feels sort of off-balance… I also miss the lattice view, I loved scrolling through it to see the progress I was making.
The colouring I’ll get used to, but I think there could be more contrast with some stuff, like the Apprentice, Guru, Master etc labels.
Also, in terms of scripts, timeline disappeared for me and uhh, how do we access the self-study quiz now? Ahh…
