Hi there!
I’ve finally embarked on my journey to study Japanese after an excruciating amount of work to get myself to actually sit down and learn (ADHD victim),
I’m currently using Genki I, along with wanikani to learn Japanese and was curious about whether using Bunpro would be efficient to my studies, as it focuses on grammar points,
thanks for your time of reading this!
There’s no way to answer this question for you unfortunately, you’ll have to experiment and see what works best for you.
Personally I didn’t really mesh with Genki but I did find bunpro valuable (doing one or two lessons everyday all the way to N3 gave me the tools to read Japanese seriously).
I see, I suppose that’s true!
Textbooks really hurt my brain so using the genki I path might be a good way of incorporating it into my brain, thank you
I like Bunpro very much - but I think one needs at least the basis to make a better mileage out of it.
If you’re a beginner I think Genki makes sense as it will help you practice the most common patterns.
There are plenty of materials out there (videos on Youtube) that will help explaining grammar points in a less « textbook » manner, so I would encourage you to check these out - it adds the « hearing » dimension that you might orherwise be lacking.
Hi!
thank you for your input, it means a lot to me :))
I definitely understand what you mean, and I’m currently going to use it in synergy with genki I (the genki path they offer in the site, alongside the textbook for the detailed explanations of grammar and kanji input etc.)
also, I’d like to add I watch a lot of “Kaname Naito” on youtube for grammar points and getting used to accent, I think he’s exceptional with his grammatical insights!
Welcome to the forums and enjoy the learning journey!
Since it sounds like you’re just starting, it might be a good idea to use the complete (grammar+vocab) Genki decks in BunPro. You can sync with WK so that BP skips the vocab you’re picking up here.
I’d also recommend TokiniAndy’s Genki videos on YouTube - he goes along with the textbooks discussing all grammar points. I found his explanations very helpful in clarifying/solidifying the textbook materials.
And if after Genki you want to try a different approach, check out Cure Dolly’s videos also on YouTube. Just ignore the creepy doll, turn on captions because the synth voice can be grating and disregard the constant jabs at textbooks
Hi!
Thank you so much for your input,
I will 100% write this down and check it out, it might be worthwhile!!
If you like watching grammar on YouTube, I’d also recommend the channel “Game Gengo ゲーム言語”. He makes short videos on single grammar topics, longer ones with “all grammar” from a certain N-level, and he also has a series with Genki I grammar - all with examples from dialogues used in games with Japanese audio (hence his channel name ).
For me, it’s a nice addition to my grammar studies with Bunpro and Genki to see more sentences, usages and other explanations.
Thanks a lot! will definitely check them out!!
yipppppie welcome to the bunpro family !!
