I accidentally typo’d statue as statute for https://www.wanikani.com/kanji/像
Although in this case I did mean statue, statute is another word altogether so probably should be blacklisted.

I think a lot of people miss the point of what the blacklist is actually for. It is not to catch typos that the typo prevention allows. It is to blacklist words with similar meaning/nuance that people actively try to input but it is objectively incorrect. It isn’t feasible to blacklist every single similarly spelt word for every word on wanikani

Yes, you’re spot on about how we handle blocklist requests! We mainly add words to the blocklist that sneak through because they have similar-looking meanings or are antonyms, not just because they’re normal typos.
As an example, if a character looks a lot like a different kanji and has a meaning with just enough spelling similarities to get through, we’ll blocklist it so learners don’t confuse the two. Because “statute” is only associated with one of the non-primary readings for the level 60 vocab 定款 “company statute,” we won’t add it to the blocklist at this time.
