I’ve been thinking 主に meant manly for days now. Omg lol. Ahahahahahaha. It’s so easy to get these wrong! It’s MAINLY. Jesus H. Fisher Price.
Maybe that’s one for the blacklist? @Mods
Blacklist?
WK allows small typos so it’s not differentiating mainly from manly because it’s only 1 letter off, each item has a blacklist of words that could be entered as a typo but shouldn’t be allowed because the meaning is completely different (as in this case)
Hmm, well, maybe, but it’s easy to get a completely different meaning if you’re one letter off. I was thinking manly because that’s how a master would be (lol), so if I wasn’t told “nope, you’re wrong, TRY AGAIN”, I’d have kept thinking that! Thanks for the thought, though.
i agree in this case “manly” shouldn’t be allowed (or at the very least give a warning), that’s also why @sad-axolotl mentioned that it should be added to the blacklist for 主に, because that would tell the system “this answer shouldn’t be accepted even though it’s only one letter off”
sorry i wasn’t super clear in communicating what i meant, i’m also pretty new to this
also, i’m surprised it didn’t give you a “your answer was a little off,” i’ve gotten that warning when i typed in “flower” instead of “flowers” for the 艹 radical
And that’s why you shouldn’t forget to read example sentences. But, yeah pretty funny story.
That’s why I use WK But No Cigar.
Glad you liked that. That isn’t what I first typed, but you know, I don’t wanna get banned.
I can see how someone could confuse 主 with the king kanji (王), so I’ll add “manly” to the block list. Thanks for tagging us!
Thank you RachelG! I didn’t confuse it with king, I was still thinking mastery-ly = manly, but thanks for adding it to the list!
Normally they’d block words that are related, but wrong. For example, for “south”, they’d block “north” but not “mouth”.
I thought 迷 was ashtray at first. Forget when exactly I noticed, but I do remember it was post guru.
I thought 菅 was “sledge” for a while
Level 3 again? This WaniKani round 4?
I’ve been level 3 for… about 2 years now? I think.
In theory this would have been the start of round 3, but I never started.
Really? Could have swore I saw you in the 30s not that long ago. Nevermind me.
I did the same thing with 堤 (embankment/levee), I thought it was embarkment (like, on a journey) all the way until I started getting the vocab for it and it all had to do with levees and dams and stuff. Still trips me up.
I thought 程よく was probably. Too bad one cannot create the opposite of synonym (i.e. personal black list item) to help oneself shake ones like this that have been ingrained in the mind.
