Actually you can find it and several of the volumes for sale at J-Novel Club!
Here is a link to a preview which covers the entirety of the first chapter and a little bonus omake!
I hope that helps!

I thought I’d mention this in here, in case anyone else uses Natively. I added volume 75 of Harta to Natively! I explained how the magazine works to Brandon and mentioned that we have a club for it here, and he said that we can add the issues one by one as we need them. He made a series page for them, and we can use the “+ add more volumes” button to add more.
I probably won’t bother to add them myself until I actually get around to reading them (which might be a while), but if anyone else would like to have them listed on your own Natively page, feel free to add as many of them as you’d like!
Ahhhhhhh you are so awesome!!!
I use natively but I stopped updating regularly since it really wasn’t optimal for tracking my progress. You (and Brandon) are life savers!!
Haha, yeah, it’s only partially useful to me, since most of my reading isn’t, like, actual books ! I feel like it can sort of have the effect of discouraging people from reading non-traditional books if they feel like they can’t log it (at least, I’ve personally experienced this), so I thought it was worth adding! Maybe people who aren’t in this club can discover Harta that way, too. I think I’ll try to cross-post my thoughts on the issues in the reviews there (assuming I manage to finish any issues, haha).
Brilliant, I added issue 76 a couple of days ago too. I requested the series and Brandon asked me to send a list of links over, which I will do later.
My first issue summary post! Yay! It’s very stream-of-consciousness style on account of being basically a reading log, but I hope folks find something of use or interest in it anyway. Here goes!
The cover of this one did not appeal to me at all, but I read the cover story anyway and okay, that last page is kind of cute.
Series Debuts
Day 1, title page read + first page skimmed
Right off the bat, I learn the word 復讐劇 (revenge tragedy, which by the way also taught me that the kanji look-up by drawing function in my dictionary app on my phone is quite good!). But I’m confused because Laika is such a cute dog! And the way that whole first line reads doesn’t seem like it’s really going to be a revenge tragedy. Maybe the artist is doing that on purpose so they can destroy me (emotionally) later? I’m concerned, but going to continue anyway.
Day 2, page 1 & 2
Oh crap, I’m half a page in and all of a sudden my dictionary app tells me that the search by drawing function is actually only for paid subscriptions … Pretty sure I can’t read Harta without it, so there goes … $26.99 for a one year subscription I guess?
One shiny new Takoboto subscription later and I’ve doubled my daily page count from one to two! Happy to learn that Laika is okay (alive), and I guess trying to destroy earth possibly? That’s okay, I’m sure earth deserves it.
Day 3, 5 7 pages read!
I’m looking up multiple words per bubble, feels like, and Laika’s self-aggrandizing kanji usage doesn’t help but what better way to hook me than an extraterrestrial society of adorably bloodthirsty Soviet space dogs??? So glad this is the first thing I’m reading in Harta.
I have such a hard time not typing Haruta every time.
Day 4, finished chapter! All I can say is …
Gahhh!!! Laikaaaaaa!!!111111
This appears to be a one-page color illustration with textbook-like description of … a giant lobster? Decided to skip for now (but did enjoy the illustration).
Shorts
Day 1 of this story, read almost two pages, only because I saw @SeanBones post about this issue and felt inspired! But it’s getting late, so I only read a little.
Day 2, 15 or so pages (quite a few with few or no words), then finished later in the day.
I’m a little fuzzy on the details … the creativity of the people attracts scary monsters, and if the princess doesn’t give the monsters rice then they hurt the village? I also don’t understand the cotton that becomes stone situation? Or why cotton is flying out of the isolation machine?
Still really enjoyed this one, though. Loved the art.
Cute!!! This story was totally cozy and adorable. That title page really set the scene perfectly. I wonder what the significance of the title is though. Maybe the treehouse these two roommates live together in is in an ash tree?
I gather that this mangaka is completely new, curious to see if they will have any more stories in Harta in the future!
Continuing Series
Day 1 of this story, after having read it in English last night I made a pass through the first chapter in Japanese this morning. Looked up a few words, but for the most part relied on my memory of the English any time I had difficulty, or just skimmed past it. Now ready to start chapter two! … in my next reading session.
Still day 1. It is a grey rainy day and I have finished everything else that I’m planning to read out of this issue … oh, although, I guess I was thinking about trying ふろラン as well…and ついたて!餅小町 … But I’m getting really impatient to move on to the next issue, rather than just keep adding series that I want to read in this issue. I can always come back for them later! Wow, all that thinking and paging through and now I have no time left for reading. えへへ
Got to read a little more! I wonder how 銅 on its own is pronounced in this … My dictionary gives three different pronunciations.
Managed to read about 6 pages, but I’m actually way too tired. It’s just that I’m so excited. I have not been keeping track of what I read on what day, but I think I might have read all of はなやっこ and トネリコ today in addition to all this クプルムの花嫁? Maybe I read Toneriko yesterday? I don’t even know anymore. Basically, I did not expect to be doing this well!
Day 2, finished!
I love this one so much!!! I like that Syuu is such an artist, and it leads to some slightly surreal situations.
Read this one cause it’s a 4-koma, which I figure are easier to jump into in the middle. I didn’t really look anything up, and didn’t get most of the gags. I got a couple, though. I’ll try again in the next issue and see if I get any better. I like the art!
There is a smaller, separate table of contents. No idea what that stuff is. Maybe columns or something? Will check it out later. Maybe.
I’m really glad you enjoyed it and glad to read your thoughts!
I don’t think you’re missing anything, I think it’s just fairy tale logic. The “spore rice” can be separated by the machine into cotton and rice, at which point it turns to stone. The resulting (presumably magic / special) rice can act as an offering for the monster attracted to the village by the energy from their creativity.
The exact mechanics seem a little underbaked and it’s not helped in being not-confusing by the art making the 胞子米 and the cotton look nearly identical, but I think that’s all it is.
Is the smaller table of contents you mentioned this?
If so, it’s an explanation of the currently running series’ groupings! Since not all series run every issue, this explains which issues you can find each one in.
Generally the end of the magazine stuff has:
I definitely don’t read everything back there, but the previews can be fun and informative!
I added Harta Alta to Natively a while back too! Here, in case anyone else wants to track it there.
ooh I hadn’t looked from the back yet, that is fun.
I was wondering if any of you had some ideas for tracking progress through the magazine itself? It’s going to take me a while to get through, so to organise myself I was thinking of making a spreadsheet of the table of contents and checking them off as I go.
Does anyone have it in spreadsheet form already, or have a better idea? If not I’ll probably start a shared spreadsheet like other book clubs have. It could be really basic like what @SeanBones did for issue 75 with the Japanese title, English title, start and end volume for that series if known. Then if anyone wants to use it for tracking it’s easy to copy their own version.
I ended up not bothering to stick to the idea of catching up with a series per issue to slow myself down, and zipped through the rest of the back issues!
ハルタ 77号
ハルタ 78号
ハルタ 79号
And the Harta Alternative all one-shot issue!
ハルタオルタ 2019-AUTUMN
In general I don’t like the one-shot issues quite as much as the main series, but if you like this one, be sure to look into テラン (“Terang”), the later take on the same all-one-shot idea!
Also, just for fun, I thought I would try to compile my contemporaneous notes of everything else I can think of that I’ve ever read remotely related to Harta:
From when I was reading manga in English (I wasn’t posting these publicly back then so they can especially be amusingly sparse):

My favorite new author’s short story collection:
四十九日のお終いに
Has absolutely nothing to do with Harta except it’s just a manga collection that seems kinda like probably Harta-enjoyers would like it:
魔法が使えなくても
(for all notes I’ve tried to put spoilers under dropdowns though I wouldn’t necessarily recommend reading any before reading whatever it’s about if you’re planning to - except maybe these new ones about the Harta back issues since I obviously wrote those knowing I was going to post them in this thread)
Oh, also
As more people read more Harta issues, that kind of thing is what I’m especially looking forward to, since not being a Kyudo practitioner and not being particularly into sports manga, this one didn’t stand out hugely for me when I’ve skimmed its chapters (although I do still intend to read it from the beginning sometime). It’s really cool to see different people respond to different series!
Haha, of all your first impressions to the different series, this is the one that’s the most 100% on the money for me!
That’s 九国のジュウシ all right!
I’m also definitely curious in seeing what other people think of Migi and Dali, haha. That’s one where having read the whole thing I’m still not really sure if I liked it exactly, but it’s so strange and not quite like anything else it feels kind of great anyway.
I’m going to try not to mention it every time the series comes up, but the author tragically passed away from cancer this year and I feel especially sad about it since they’re the author who I would know the least what to expect from their next work.
There was an anime that came out this year too - I wonder how it was received?
Woah, just skimmed this one and looked it up. it looks like a surreal psychological thriller comedy? I don’t really understand how that combines but it looks intriguing. I can’t imagine being able to make head or tail of it without reading the first volumes. And the premise is dark enough I’m not going to prioritise it, but it looks like a really interesting one I might come back to.
Harta 78
I’m reading ホテル・メッツァペウラへようこそ from 78, I’m finding it more approachable than trying to read across a load of series in one issue. I might post thoughts now and then, perhaps one per issue to discuss? I’m really enjoying it so far.
Harta 78
My first time reading a full magazine issue and i kind of understood why normally they put popular works in the start.
For the actual series i liked the new works and will continue reading them
In the already running works i really liked
生き残った6人 and アンリの靴 and 夜の名前
Also planning on reading the first volume of
クプルムの花嫁 since it also looks fun
昴とスーさん is also something I am looking forward for reading since i read some of it already.
And finally I am really excited to continue reading the magazine issues since it’s so much like a chocolate box you don’t know what flavor you will get next.
Quick mention in case it helps anyone a little bit with series catch-up, but to again celebrate the Dungeon Meshi anime debut, a number of Harta series have their first volume 50% off (and Dungeon Meshi has the first two volumes free to read but not keep) until 1/18 un bookwalker.
Thanks for posting that! If you’ve caught up on the series below, I’m wondering if any of these are more episodic thon story driven. As in, I’m trying to seperate the ones I’m most interested in to whether I would need to catch up on the whole series before being able to enjoy them from Harta 75 and those where perhaps just reading vol 1 means I’d be good enough to skip ahead to the magazines. Any thoughts appreciated!
ハクメイとミコチ (Fellows 22- continuing)
山を渡る (52- continuing)
峠鬼 (67-continuing) Primal Gods in ancient times
Dungeon Meshi
ふしぎの国のバード (2-continues) Bird in Wonderland
ニコラのおゆるり魔界紀行 (vol 42-81) Nicola’s journey through the demon world
Sure!
ハクメイとミコチ is mainly episodic and the only thing you’d really be missing out on not being caught up is recognizing the large number of side characters that accumulate when they turn up in an episode. I enjoyed plenty of chapters before I got caught up, although catching up and meeting those characters properly does make some chapters feel more coherent.
The 1 volume → magazine idea (or even starting in the magazine) would work just fine.
山を渡る I think would be 100% fine not being caught up on. It’s very straightforwardly about a club that climbs mountains. Some of them are newbies, some of them aren’t.
The 1 volume → magazine idea (or even starting in the magazine) would work just fine.
峠鬼 isn’t episodic and I think would be largely incomprehensible. (it’s not always the easiest to keep track of what’s going on even once caught up…).
Better to catch up all the way before reading it in the magazine.
Incidentally, it looks like conveniently volume 4 starts on the first chapter in Harta 75, so the ones to catch up on are neatly contained in vols. 1-3.
Dungeon Meshi is quite story driven and gets more and more so as it goes on. Since the digital editions of Harta start when Dungeon Meshi is working towards the end game, I definitely would not recommend reading it there without catching up first.
Definitely better to catch up all the way.
ふしぎの国のバード is sort of in the middle, I’d say, as the driving force of the story is her journey and so it’s definitely better if you’ve been along for the ride, but each chapter would still largely stand on its own fine.
To enjoy it episodically it’s probably enough to know the premise (or maybe read the first chapter): real historical travel writer Isabella Bird travels from Tokyo to Hokkaido with her interpreter Ito in the late 1800s. You can figure out how far along in her journey she is based on that.
The 1 volume → magazine idea would probably work well.
ニコラのおゆるり魔界紀行, I’m not sure - I started reading with 80 so it ended before I had a chance to catch up and I still haven’t (but still want to). I’d happened to have read a volume in English once though.
I think it would probably be enjoyable and straightforward enough to enjoy, but sort of like with Dungeon Meshi, since the chapters starting in the digital Harta edition are near the end, I suspect that appreciating that ending would be trickier without having read the beginning and middle. That might just be since I remember skipping it in the magazine since it was actively concluding then though.
Thank you so much that is incredibly helpful! This group is really fun. I would have found the manga magazines way too overwhelming without your and @SeanBones help!
So I bought volumes 75-80 during the sale, and I will at least try to commit to those for now I am a bit less than halfway through vol 75, but wanted to make a post so far before its been long and I forget my first impressions.
This was actually quite short and cute, different from what I expected from the cover… really, every time I read with my kindle in public, I just hope people around me don’t see the cover for this issue
I enjoyed it. Beautiful art and I liked the theme (archery), haven’t read many manga like this. Easy to follow even though I’m not familiar with the story - looking forward to more.
I read a few chapters of this in english a while back. It’s entertaining + interesting, though it can be a bit technical at times (which was a bit too much for me to read a chapter after another, but should be fine to read if it comes out every few weeks/months)
It was fine, but I guess I’d need a bit more context to understand the overall plot. I did enjoy the beer explanations, but I got a bit lost halfway.
It was really cute and I enjoyed it more than expected, particularly all the historical information over castles and the scenery in お台場. I’m quite curious about this one, and would definitely read further.
I loved this one. Bittersweet, handicrafts, strong plot… really lovely.
I could follow it well, though a lot of context was missing since it’s half-way through the series I guess. I liked the themes, the characters , the art and the drama, I look forward to reading more of it.
I liked this one. The make-up theme was interesting, and I liked that the characters was basically a painter coming up with product designs. I’m curious to see other themes that will come up in the story.
I loved everything about this!! The setting was super interesting, the characters were cute and the story was easy to follow (in terms of vocabulary). The character designs weren’t my favourite part, but otherwise the art was gorgeous.
Definitely a story which I would need to read the previous chapters to know what’s going on. But the art and the plot really caught my attention - strong female character, which seems to go through many hardships and difficulties in her life… it got me quite curious.
Stories I kind of skipped:
ライカの星: It was cute, the theme was quite straightforward… but I found it a bit too wordy and something about the dog civilization was a bit off-putting to me. I skimmed it briefly, and I feel like I could already understand the main plot from the end, so it just didn’t catch my attention so much.
Hinamatsuri: I already read most of it in English, therefore it felt a bit weird to reread while already knowing the plot
煙と蜜: I am not a fan of military stories, and I found the japanese really difficult to read, so I just skimmed through it.
はなやっこ: I’m not a big fan of 4-koma, and just reading a random chapter like this, it feels like there are too many inside jokes and a bit of overall “just girls doing girl things” feel to it which I… am not the biggest fan of, so I just skipped.
下死の猟犬: The very long bath scene with a lot of text was just… well, a bit off-putting to me
I will update this post once I finish the volume with the remaining stories. Overall, I’m really enjoying it. There are a lot of varied stories and genres, which I really appreciate. Many stories which are ongoing are either easy and interesting enough to follow even though I caught them halfway, or so interesting that it makes me want to read from the beginning.
Wow! So so so so happy to see this thread being so active!! I’ve been gone so long (visiting my family in Kyushu for the new years) and I’ve since caught the flu sadly so I’m just catching up now!
My first issue summary post!
Reading your thoughts on Laika is so funny lol. Its a fever dream and a half! Glad you liked Princess and are into Coppersmith! Definitely going to follow Coppersmith into the future!
I added Harta Alta to Natively a while back too! Here , in case anyone else wants to track it there.
Thank you!!!
If not I’ll probably start a shared spreadsheet like other book clubs have. It could be really basic like what @SeanBones did for issue 75 with the Japanese title, English title, start and end volume for that series if known.
That would be awesome! Japanese Wikipedia does all of it except the English!
I’m reading ホテル・メッツァペウラへようこそ from 78, I’m finding it more approachable than trying to read across a load of series in one issue. I might post thoughts now and then, perhaps one per issue to discuss? I’m really enjoying it so far.
Ooh, glad to hear you like it, I’ll look forward to it!
It’s really cool to see different people respond to different series!
Yeah! Its great to compare and contrast what everyone thinks about them! I need to get working on more issues so I can chat more with everyone about them! Probably once I’m over the flu since my brain is a mess right now haha.
There was an anime that came out this year too - I wonder how it was received?
Oh god, a part of me desperately wants to watch that now lol.
My first time reading a full magazine issue and i kind of understood why normally they put popular works in the start.
Yeah it makes so much more sense when you open a magazine for the first time!
生き残った6人
Can’t wait to start this next issue!
クプルムの花嫁 since it also looks fun
Happy someone else is on board!
昴とスーさん is also something I am looking forward for reading since i read some of it already.
How is it overall? I’ve only read one chapter but it looked really good!
峠鬼 isn’t episodic and I think would be largely incomprehensible. (it’s not always the easiest to keep track of what’s going on even once caught up…).
Oh yeah I’ve been loving catching up to this but like daaaannnggggg its not easy!
I would have found the manga magazines way too overwhelming without your and @SeanBones help!
So I bought volumes 75-80 during the sale, and I will at least try to commit to those for now I am a bit less than halfway through vol 75, but wanted to make a post so far before its been long and I forget my first impressions.
Welcome aboard!
青武高校あおぞら弓道部
I enjoyed it. Beautiful art and I liked the theme (archery), haven’t read many manga like this. Easy to follow even though I’m not familiar with the story - looking forward to more.
I know right!! The art is so good! Really like this manga!
It was fine, but I guess I’d need a bit more context to understand the overall plot. I did enjoy the beer explanations, but I got a bit lost halfway.
I could follow it well, though a lot of context was missing since it’s half-way through the series I guess. I liked the themes, the characters , the art and the drama, I look forward to reading more of it.
Completely completely completely agree with both!!!
I’ll get to my reading this week once I’m over the flu!!
About 昴とスーさん aside of the nice art the story and the mystery are really good i highly recommend you to read it from the beginning since the manga is about reveling what is going on bit by bit
