I’ve known for at least half a year that I’m overdue on beginning serious reading practice, and while it’s not like I do absolutely no reading whatsoever, my consistency with it is rubbish when compared with my consistency with SRS which is very close to daily.
I’m consistent with my SRS’s not because they’re fun, but because I’ve made it a habit. Which brings me to the sole purpose of this challenge, make daily reading a habit.
I plan to do this by starting small and then gradually increasing the amount of reading I do per day up to 1.5hrs over the course of 4 months.
The schedule:
- May - 30mins
- June - 45mins
- July - 1hr
- August - 1hr 30mins
The resources:
I want to keep this as simple as possible as that will increase my chances of actually completing it. For that reason, I won’t be posting daily updates or keeping detailed logs of what I read as I just see that as extra work; I’ll simply set a timer and spend that time reading, probably in multiple sessions as the reading time increases.
If you find yourself in a similar boat to me - recognizing the importance of daily reading in advancing your Japanese proficiency, but also struggling to keep consistent with it - and feel like this format would help, then feel free to join in! Change the times, duration, resources etc., whatever it takes to suit your goals and situation.
This isn’t intended to be my personal study log, just a place to get this idea down and maybe post some updates every now and then.
Good luck me, and all who give this a shot!!
