A 推し活 Study Blog, feat. Hatsune Miku!

Long Backstory and self reflection, open if you're bored 🤣

I’ve been incredibly on off Wanikani for a couple years now, and I’m ashamed to say that I’m still at lvl 9. My wallet thanks me for buying the life-time subscription!

Before I went into a hiatus, I was really motivated by the 0Lessons/0 Reviews goal and I still am! I’ve managed to hit 0 reviews after 3 weeks, and am now in the midst of trying to clear my 200 lessons… Slowly! I adjust my lessons to get a mix of radicals and kanji and vocab so I don’t burn myself out and get discouraged by the crazy number of vocabulary words.

I’m calling this my oshikatsu blog for a very silly reason. I really really like singing, and I really really like Japanese music. But I’ve never put in the effort to learn the proper lyrics because I wasn’t confident. Well, who cares what others think? Who cares how I sing? I have so many songs I love and want to sing!

Turns out learning the lyrics isn’t as difficult as I thought. Although I’m slow and can only learn a few lines / a verse / chorus at a time, it is very satisfying. I am also very happy that I can recognise certain kanji and follow the japanese lyrics instead of always reading romaji. In fact, it makes it easier for me to remember the words!

Right now I’m a die-hard fan of Hatsune Miku Project Sekai and Enstars. Of course I’m playing the JP servers, and of course I still can’t read very well. But the songs are so so so good and I’m going to make them my first starting point. This blog is probably gonna to be me spamming about how cute the characters are and music videos and songs lyrics I’ve managed to learn. Or concerts I’ve managed to attend.

My biggest aim is to be able to consume Japanese media without a lot of trouble! And to read Project Sekai and Enstars stories before they shut down the games >.<

Lastly, it was Project Sekai’s 5th anniversary a few days ago. プロセかの五周年アニバーサリーおめでとうございます!!!!

If you play the game too, you can add me. Please, I want more friends in Enstars Music too :joy:

Here’s a very adorable 初音ミク!!

よろしくお願いします!

Current Gameplan

  1. Get 0 reviews at the end of everyday!
  2. Find a song I like and practice learning the lyrics by looking at the Japanese characters and not rely on romaji
  3. Have fun and don’t get burnt out! (Hahah who am I kidding I have to suck it up and push through!)

List of songs I’ve picked up so far! (about 70~90% confidence)
“Fusion” from Enstars x Sekai Collab
“Be the MUSIC!” from Project Sekai
More Jump More from Project Sekai
Flyer from Project Sekai
Kimi no genki ni suru mahou from Enstars

New Project Sekai Wanikani friend! XD

Welcome to the loggers  !

I don’t play Project Sekai itself because I’m an old man but I’m a Project Diva enjoyer well into advanced charts territory so I guess you can say “hi grampa ;)”.

That’s amazing! I’ve never played project diva on console, but I’ve played the arcade version a few times. I’m sad that the machines are gone now :frowning:

It’s 5 Oct today, which is Haruka’s birthday!

誕生日おめでとう、桐谷遥ちゃん!

Here’s a message from another character in the game, 東雲彰人. Because I like him and I recognized a few kanji and apparently it is his 声優 birthday today too.

誕生日おめでとうございます、今井文也さん!

I’m going to be typing this phrase really often huh. I’m also going to use the swipe keyboard on my phone as often as possible and dictionary and not rely on OCR to copy the words.

Akito screen shot

彰人:桐谷、誕生日おめでとう。教えてもらった筋トレ。今でもよくやるけど、あれ本当に効くな。

新漢字
  1. 筋トレ(きんとれ)

Muscle training?

2)効く(きく)

Efficiency

Oh!! Are you thanking her for teaching you some exercise/training tips?

教え was 100% going to be a leech so I’m happy he used it. I’m going to play his clip on repeat for a while.

Still on track to hit my daily goal of a few lessons and 0 reviews left before I sleep!

If you want to call it silly, just remember that silly is a high compliment. I think the lyrics/singing thing is a great motivation, especially if you’re more capable of singing than I am (though, to be perfectly honest, I think my skill level is such that I can’t legally refer to it as a “singing voice” without a massive disclaimer). But maybe I could do something similar, since I do enjoy creating alternate lyrics on the fly to songs.

In any case, if you’ve got your goals you’re well on your way! Looking forward to reading about your future exploits!

My very first Japanese I learned was from my friend writing out lyrics in kanji, and romaji with her translations for me. I sang along to a ton of songs that way (this was early days of the internet so there weren’t a ton of lyrics sites at the time). I still credit that with teaching me a ton of vocabulary and grammar, and also probably helping my accent at least a bit.

The best way to learn Japanese is the way that makes you the most excited to learn Japanese, imo.

So welcome, from a fellow Japanese music lover. :hugs:

Thank you for your kind words!

I don’t think I’m a good singer… but who cares right? It’s fun!

Do you create alternate Japanese lyrics or English lyrics? I like listening to fan made dubbed songs because some of them are so good. Must be difficult to keep to the same number of syllables and meaning though.

I’ve tried many times to start a lyrics notebook, and apparently not starting one and just listening to YouTube lyric videos are is the most effective way for me lol.

The work is already done after all.

I would love to hear some of your favorite Japanese songs! Or a song that has been stuck in your head recently.

Still maintaining my 0 review streak and a couple of lessons everyday. I hope I can finish lvl 9 by the end of October!

Level progression on durtles

I like watching the colours change. It looks like a race at the bottom huh. A race that is very rigged because I tune my lessons a lot :joy:

Will Lvl 8 Vocab ever catch up??? Stay tune for more!

I swear I’m the most productive when I’m at work and furthest away from my bed. I’m also typing this post at work lol.

Did 20 lessons and cleared my reviews at work today!

Currently trying to learn Fusion by EnstarsXSekai Collab. I think I’m about 50% there… Akito and Izumi sing too fast…

I have successfully eliminated my 向く leech because who can resist 8 イケメン beckoning to you?

It’s mostly English ones, and usually spontaneous and ridiculous.

I work the hardest during my working hours… so I didn’t learn any new lessons on Sat and Sun

But I did my reviews!!

Nearly guru’ed all of my lvl 7 vocab, starting to pick up lvl 8 vocab!

Here’s a cute 白石杏 reminding us to sing enthusiastically.

Been learning this song for the past two days. It’s so cute I’m going to die. I think I’m picking up song lyrics a little faster now! It’s definitely easier if I remember the kanji characters and meanings in my head.

Be the MUSIC! From Project Sekai

Well…. It’s kinda helpful when half the song lyrics are in English huh?

I finally leveled up again ..?

I’m at this point where figuring out the meaning of a sentence by kanji is easier than hiragana. I’m still practicing new songs! It makes my tongue less tied up when I’m trying to speak. But I end up copying the character’s accents lol.

ぴょんひょんひょん! - Rarara Station by Rabbits Enstars!

I’m also addicted to this Japanese anime skit channel 私立パラの丸高校. I don’t understand 70% of what they say but they have subtitles and if they used the words I’ve learnt from WK, it gets burnt into my head faster!
