Should be fixed now, thanks!
Oh lovely! I read this a few months ago, but because of how much slang is in it, found it a bit difficult to understand. I’ll definitely be coming back to read through this with everyone again
Excited for my very first book club! I’ve had this one for a bit but to be honest, the lack of furigana has had me putting it off.
Same! Then, not knowing that I already had it, my boyfriend got it for me as a gift while he was traveling (おみやげ!). (He also got me a few other books which I didn’t have yet.) So I’m excited to read the copy that he got for me.
Hey I’m going to try and join in! I’m new here, but used to be fluentish in spoken Japanese. Never could read much though, since I forgot all my kanji. I managed to place a hold on the book at my local library, so hopefully whoever has it now turns it in in time!
Based on your WK level I think there shouldn’t be much problem. I already read the first volume and with my less than 800 kanji knowledge, it’s pretty doable with a few looking up here and there, and for kanji that I didn’t know, I could just open up my mobile jisho and draw it on my phone.
The hardest part IMO is the main character uses Kansai dialect, so it’ll probably become a problem if you aren’t used to that. I had to skip quite a few of his lines because I’m too lazy to open up dictionary.
Thanks! I suppose I could have, you know, tried reading it. But that takes effort!
Kansai dialect will be a challenge but hey. That’s how you learn.
It’s mostly just yelling 手前 a lot, right? That’s what the Yakuza games have led me to believe.
Also all flavors of 奴.
How closely have you been listening to Majima?
Not close enough to greet people with 桐生ちゃ〜ん apparently
hey! I think I’m going to join too. it’s my first time in a book club and i think it’ll help me since i usually have no motivation. i know the grammar and i know a good amount of kanji (i think I’ll buy the one year subscription to wanikani after Christmas since i tried the first levels),but it’s been a while since i stopped studying it. can’t wait to start!
Just wondering, is there already a thread for chapter 1 and 2? Or do we just discuss here?
…Not that I’ve gotten around to reading yet
EDIT: Also it’s not the 9th yet like I thought so the timeframe for chapters 1 and 2 hasn’t even started yet. What even is time?
Thanks to recent pandemic developments I won’t be travelling for the JLPT after all, so I’ll post the thread for the first week on Saturday as originally planned. I’ll link it here, so just follow this thread to stay updated I’ll create the vocab sheet later today though, in case people have already started reading and want to start filling it in.
I thought we were reading chapters 1 and 2 by the 4th, not starting on the 4th so I am very prepared! I think I’ll enjoy helping fill out the vocab sheet.
Sorry you can’t make your JLPT! That must be a let down.
Vocab sheet is now linked in the first post!
Ah, I see! I think many people only start reading on the day the thread is posted and ask questions and post comments along the way. But there’s nothing wrong with getting a headstart
I love the anime and I’ve read the Manga in English, So I had to follow along.
Question though in the first couple to pages, Miku says “やばい” (crap, in this case, because she’s running late)
Does anyone know if there is a similarly pronounced word in Korean? I used to have a Korean colleague and I swear I remember him saying something like this…
Anyway, a little off topic!
idk if i should write it here or somewhere else, but i tried buying the manga from Amazon jp (kindle) and it says “revision payment needed”, it says i have to update the payment method. i tried cause i thought I put the wrong card number or expiration date but nothing changed. the email says that i got 30 days to adjust it. i don’t understand what the problem is, maybe the address/billing address?
I haven’t seen that error message before, but mine gets grumpy with me if I don’t occasionally flip a VPN on and pretend to be in Japan. It might be worth trying that out.
Edit: Though just to confirm, the billing address should be the actual billing address for the card you are using. The only “fake” address (if you don’t live in Japan), should be the “Primary Address” on the account.
