I’m a couple weeks behind, between being busy and just not having the mental energy for the full immersion of reading, but I’m going to try to get caught up this week. I’m guessing most of the questions that I’ll likely encounter will already be answered, but I’ll apologize in advance for adding more posts to prior threads hahaha.

Nana is my favourite anime of all time. Have gotten the English version of the manga as my first manga ever. Haven’t really gotten around to reading them though.

I’ll second this. If you have the means to do so, it’s never too late to pick up a copy of Yotsuba.
My own formula for word density of the two series (first volumes) puts Yotsuba at about a 6 and Nana just above 21, where lower means fewer words per page and higher is more.
While you can start reading with Nana, go through each line of dialogue, looking up unknown vocabulary, and learning unknown grammar, it’ll be more difficult to feel like you’re making progress. It’s not impossible, as I did this with a manga where the word density was over 26, but that was a four-panel (4koma) style manga where context only needed to be followed across four panels.
Going the Yotsuba route, you’ll likely spend more time looking up common grammar, as I imagine Nana (which I haven’t read and know nothing about) will have a higher rate of less common grammar. Yotsuba also has a smaller selection of vocabulary words (about 650 unique words versus Nana with around 1,600).
I just ‘finished’ Vol 1 last night. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much I comprehended on my first passes so rather than dissect each page I’ve read the chapter in Japanese; read a scanlation to fill in pieces I missed, and then read it in Japanese again. On my second passes I’d say my comprehension is ~80%. Reading the scanlation is very helpful in identifying words I knew but just didn’t pick up for one reason or another; as well as onomatopoeias I mistook for ‘real’ worlds “Hyagh”, “GAOO” etc
Very thankful for this bookclub to get me started- I wouldn’t have done this without the thread, and I was feeling a bit discouraged on my progress prior to it. Being able to actually (mostly) read and enjoy my first native content has been very encouraging; and this series is a lot of fun.
