葬送のフリーレン ・Frieren 🧝‍♂️ (Beginner Book Club) [Reading Vol 12]

Gotta love Fern!!

pfft…she got that only cuz she would have pouted…

should have been stark! :crossed_swords:

Hello everyone, it’s time to gather for Volume 6! There is a brand new vocab spreadsheet (I’ve kept the great updated names and places page, thank you to those who update that :star_struck:). See you there:

Hi everyone, we’re on the final chapter of Volume 6 this week, so if you’ve already read it and want to head over for some end of volume chatter, follow the link!

We’ll have a 1 week break as usual, and Volume 7 starts August 22nd.

Hi everyone, thanks for following along - we’re now on Volume 7 which starts with Chapter 58. I haven’t watched the anime but a quick search tells me the anime ended at Chapter 60, so this would be the volume to join if you’d like to continue. See you there -

So apparently, in that I only know through something that Facebook randomly coughed up on my feed, Frieren has gone on indefinite hiatus. Went looking for some more reputable sources, and came up with this, and it seems it’s far from the first hiatus, sooo…

Thanks for the heads up, I hope they can recover. It will still take us almost another year and a half to get through the next 8 volumes, so… maybe by then we’ll know more.

Speaking of, let me know if anyone wants to discuss club pace and breaks?

Thanks for continuing to keep everything organised mitrac! I wouldn’t be averse to speeding up. We’ve been a year and a half so far and only halfway through the published volumes. Another year and a half to go at current pace. Also happy to continue at a more relaxed pace if that’s what suits others.

The current pacing is fine for me personally, already reading lots of other stuff and this is especially for those in multiple clubs or with lots of ongoing reading, sometimes leisurely is good. Non stressful reading/no pressure is more enjoyable.

I have always found it peculiar when someone wants to go faster that they won’t just read ahead. Nothing stopping someone from just binging the rest of the manga right now. There are no bookclub police going to stop anyone from doing that. Reading more not less, is usually a good thing.

If this is the only book someone is reading and someone doesn’t want to go faster than the club pace, consider add some other books into the mix, join some other clubs… there’s a whole desert to get lost in at the moment…Just my opinion…

Current pace also fine for me, Frieren is the main club I keep falling behind on lol

Thanks for the comments everyone. I know it can be hard to stick your neck out and say something since everyone experiences life and book clubs so much differently. But it’s helpful to have a few comments in addition to looking at the participation polls and it helps me work out if we lose more participation to people reading ahead vs falling behind etc.

My sense is it’s both, and not overwhelmingly one or the other, so let’s keep the current pace.

It’s been a fun club, and I appreciate everyone’s participation in various ways, whether it’s hearts, polls, comments, or helping out eg vocab sheets. I hope lots of you stick around and that even more people catch up! And for those who read ahead and still participate, thank you so much!

I noticed that the Natively ratings have a slight trough at volume 7, soon we are passing that and heading from 4 :glowing_star: back into 5 :glowing_star: territory.

Happy reading!!

Can you believe it, we’re on ch 67, the last chapter of volume 7. Come have a wander and join the discussion!

As usual we’ll have a week break between volumes

Join us for Volume 8 where we continue with Ch 68!

I’m staying in a friend’s apartment, and they have Netflix, so… just watched ep 1-6 of Frieren anime and yes the hype is true, it’s incredible. I am glad I waited actually, it’s giving me a refresh on volume 1 content, some of which I forgot by now, and it’s so nostalgic to see the early character introductions again, so super high impact :sob:

I felt the same. It’s nice seeing the static drawings of a manga come to life in the anime, and all the great sceneries and music. But what I really enjoyed was a recap of the early story!

Yes, the recap was so helpful! there were a few subtleties I had missed in the manga, too. Like Stark’s backstory with Eisen. From the manga I thought they had an argument and I didn’t understand why Eisen hit him. From the anime it seems to imply that Eisen was afraid of him during their sparring and that’s why he hit him out of defensive reflex. Things like that. I feel like I got a better understanding of some of the more emotional aspects of backstory now. The voice delivery of the lines is so enlightening

How long until Volume 9? Is it a set amount of time per volume?

There’s a schedule for our volume 8 reading in the volume 8 thread. Based on that, and a week gap between volumes, we’ll start vol 9 on 23 Jan.

I see that now! Thank you!

Has anyone done the math to see how much manga content the new season of Frieren covers? I want to read ahead so I’m not seeing new content via the anime for the first time. Is it through volume 10?
