I have to admit I didn’t do it intentionally! I think I saw the 19th somewhere on the BBC thread and went with it because posting on Fridays will be a lot easier for me to be consistent. Also I agree with you, as a participant it’s nice not to miss half the discussion that could happen over the weekend waiting for the thread to come up.
It’s a measure of that word’s frequency within the volume.
The more stars a word has, the more often you’ll see it in the club.
If you see three-star words you don’t know, you may opt to learn those because you’ll see them a lot.
Any two-star words, you may consider learning because you’ll see them a bit.
One-star words will come up now and then.
Zero-star words you won’t see often in the volume.
I went with “Rate” for the column name because “Frequency” is a bit too long, and I avoided “Freq.” because I didn’t want an abbreviated header.
This rating system is common to the ABBC vocabulary spreadsheets I make (having first been used for Mitsuboshi Colors). Since I used one of my ABBC vocabulary spreadsheets for this one, using the Rate column sort of came along with it.
Where I live, Friday afternoon is Japan’s Saturday morning. That allows me to put “Saturday” on the schedule, but still post on Friday.
That said, whether the schedule says Friday or Saturday, post when it’s most convenient for you, and everyone will adapt quickly.
This gives such an intuitive and visual indicator of relative importance on the vocab sheets. Since seeing this on your sheets I find my brain engaging with the higher star rating words more. The brain picks up on priority quickly given the chance!
Thanks for that, I admit when making the schedule I started overthinking it (does this mean I should post Thursday because if I post Friday afternoon it’s Saturday in Japan? kind of thoughts) but I think you’re right and the key thing is to be consistent. It’s my first time running a scheduled club, so I want to do it well and give back to this great community 
but this only works if someone does the koto extraction magic
otherwise for the clubs I have, manual 
don’t overthink.
people will fall behind, people will read ahead, people will get bored or flake and drop.
keep what you have and don’t worry about it
you’ll also get busy or life will come up and sometimes forget to post the weekly note
just go with what’s already final - trying to make everyone happy will drive you insane

I’m so happy this is the upcoming BBC choice! I started reading this but was having a little trouble. Really excited to tackle this with the rest of the club.
The FedEx truck stopped at my house earlier today - I was puzzled for a moment because I wasn’t expecting anything to be delivered, when suddenly I had an ‘aha’ moment - they delivered a smallish cardboard box - from Japan - with 12 brand new volumes of Frieren inside - I had ordered the set from a seller on eBay, and was surprised by how quickly it arrived. Including tax (and with ‘free shipping’) it came out to about 8 USD per volume.
I’m already way way behind in some other book clubs, so no promises here, but I have enjoyed the anime so much that I’m willing to give the manga a try - even though it is likely above my current level.
It was interesting to see the comparison of word and kanji counts, especially because Nichijou is also in that table. Does that mean that at least some of Nichijou was covered in a past book club? If that’s indeed the case then I’ll have to look around for it - I do have the complete set of Nichijou, both in English and in Japanese, waiting for a time when I could confidently tackle it. Judging by the word and kanji counts, maybe that time is now. Of course I also have the Blu-Ray and DVD 
Just don’t be like me, buying up a bunch of Japanese volumes of Sailormoon in the 90’s and not actually reading the series in Japanese until a few years ago.

Hi I am so excited as this my first book club. Also this is my first time to read any Manga. I want to ask what is the meaning of ハイダーin page 10 and グン in page 11. Are they names?

But yes, ハイター (no dakuten) is the name of the priest, the tall guy with glasses.
The word on page 11 is クソ.

ソ and ン can be difficult to distinguish in some fonts. The clue is to look at the right hand stroke of the character.
When it’s ソ the right hand stroke is drawn from top to bottom, traditionally with a brush. This means the top of the stroke is thicker.
When it’s ン the right hand stroke is drawn from the bottom going up, so the bottom of the stroke is thicker.
I haven’t joined a bookclub in a long time, but fantasy is right up my alley! I’m going to try my luck and look for a copy at BookOff tonight 
Just got my copy at my local Kinokuniya. Took me forever to find it, because for some reason it was sitting in a different aisle to the rest of the manga. (Also, they moved the manga aisle anyway.)
