Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

  4. What did you make of the chapters opening scene (with Kevin, Julia, and the robot)?

  5. Opinions on アネラス’s not-confession?

  6. Which NPC on the ship were you most enjoy talking to?

You got the poll in seconds before I asked about it then saw you making a comment.

What do I put here now

No more of アネラス’s wise words to title my spoilers with.

You know, as the conversation continued I guess the investigation into the robot is going to tie into this game’s broader plot, whatever even bigger thing exists that it was the first step of. That said, as it first happened I was thinking it was neat in a different way, seeing how this is a huge continuous JRPG series where the world keeps existing beyond big story arcs. It felt kinda like peeking behind the curtain we never see: ok, a giant robot from some unknown ancient technology emerged to be the final boss, now what do we as the world’s inhabitants do with that? Sending out groups to investigate it is novel in its own way I think.

So I was just about to pick Schera because I suppose I like her more, but I kept debating it and at the last second I swapped to アガット. My reasoning was entirely story based and not really about party building. It’s simply that he seems to have changed his attitude towards us significantly following the events of the first game, and I thought I should take the opportunity to see what a more chill, somewhat less condescending アガット looks like. And I’m enjoying the trip with him so far! He’s a little blunt but he’s a nice guy now and maybe deference to the JRPG protag is just the boring norm but I’m choosing to not be cynical just now haha and I think it’s neat for his character the way he actually wants to let Estelle make decisions and values what she says, following how he was previously.

I was struggling to remember some of the people on the ship, but it’s cool meeting back up with a bunch of the people we saw in the past. What caught my attention most was the guy talking about checking out the towers though, and implying something unusual was happening with one of them :eyes:

I get the feeling there’s going to be more involvement from outside nations this time, the way it’s building up the wider world a little more. I’m here for it.

week 4

More yuri-baiting reeeee

I picked Agathe for very similar reasons. I guess it will make it easier for @RebBlue to make the threads if we aren’t in opposite sides of the country, although I would have been curious to compare the paths. I presume that we’ll mostly go through the same content anyway, just in a different order.

I’m a little late to get started this week, but am now at the poll choice.

waffling

On one hand, Agate is generally harder to read with all the slang. I also really liked Shera’s crafts in the first game, whereas Agate’s crafts had no interesting effects.

On the other hand, If I choose Shera…. I’ll probably have to endure more drunk lady jokes. Oh geez. Oh man. This is a conundrum.

Flip a coin, are you disappointed time?

Literally flipped a coin and the coin has spoken. Tails, Schera wins. Bring on the terrible drinking jokes :sake:

Okay, so I’m the only one who chose Shera willingly, haha. I like the drinking jokes :eyes:

My reasoning, besides liking Shera more, was story based too though. I think Estelle has a deeper and more interesting relationship with Shera (than Agatto), Shera kind of being a teacher or almost replacement mother, also discussing relationship issues.

I enjoyed Aneras’ “rival confession”, haha.

I’m also wondering how the game will handle what looks like being able to go to 2 different places depending on your choice.
I think that’s why RebBlue made the next week longer, sounds like a good decision.

I’ll slowly continue catching up, don’t want to be too far behind when the club continues
