Stopping point: Finish the prologue. You can tell by the title screen which will say “END” and give you an opportunity to save. That specific save point is where we stop (we’re not including the scene that will play after that save point).

Side Quests

nothing new this week, but if you were holding off on quests, do them this week.

Vocabulary

Vocab Sheet , the frequency data is very inaccurate due to not existing.

Please read the guidelines on the first page before adding any words.

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

  1. What sentence/passage gave you the most difficulty? Feel free to request some help, or if you figured it out on your own break it down for the rest of us!

  2. What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?

  3. Was there any passage that you found particularly intriguing? Did it resonate with you (either positively or negatively)? Was it surprising? Offer any insight or new perspective? Was it just beautifully written?

  4. How easy or difficult did you find the investigation?

  5. Were you expecting Josette to be the culprit?

  6. What terrible fate could have befallen Cassius?

Scheherazade wanting to get two 16yo drunk, then exposed for taking her clothes off in public when drinking, then hitting on Joshua.

Cool.

Scheherazade (small spoilers for about halfway through this week)

If you talk to NPCs around town after she joins your party to chase down the culprit they have all sorts of things to say. Don’t teach these kids weird things, stop sexually harassing the bartender, more anecdotes about her drinking problem. This woman needs therapy fr!

So I’m finally back home with my gaming PC and finished week 8. And now also this week!

Main story

Perfect marks on the investigation :triumph:

So Josette was a sky pirate and the baddie, which I wasn’t expecting before examining the evidence at the house. Also didn’t see the connection between her and the fake miner, but in hindsight it makes sense that he was after the septim, the only obviously valuable thing. Though I think it was only just dug up, so who knows how she found out about it fast enough to plant a saboteur in the mine. Sky pirate mysteries.

I would say that my guess that she was a secret princess was wrong but something about what was said when talking to her boys made me think that it might not be entirely incorrect. Some mysterious past involving being a young lady of the nobility hmm? Talking about that「貴族令嬢」stuff. We’ll definitely see her and her 兄 again.

Cassius disappearing wasn’t exactly unexpected. I thought we might be leaving Rolent in order to search for him but wasn’t expecting the additional quest about getting endorsements from every branch of the bracers, oi. We still don’t have much info to point to what he was really up to and why it might antagonize some folks into attacking the ship he was on (my guess), but I’m looking forward to finding out. He’s definitely still alive though.

Side content

The general store owner’s mom has been going all over town to find him a bride the last few in-game days and I’m a little invested in that NPC side story. So far Aina, Elissa the waitress, and now Estelle and Schera have all turned her down. At least, that I know of. Will she find someone before we leave Rolent!?

Also, it took me some moments to realize what this word was and I admit I laughed when it clicked:

In another universe, Joshua is the unwitting protagonist of a harem anime.

Also a perfect investigation on my side! I had a pretty similar experience to @Sasabonsam , wasn’t immediately thinking of her, but as soon as they mentioned a woman and someone familiar with the safe, it was clear. I should’ve thought of her immediately because it did briefly cross my mind that it’s kind of careless for the mayor to wave around the big valuable thing he has and talk about it while a guest was present in the room, back when he first put it in the safe.

As expected bad things happened to Cassius, but I agree he’s alive. Taken captive somewhere, possibly? And yeah, the bracer process is pretty intense to make you go out across the world and put in good results everywhere.

I sorta like Josette, so I’m glad to see the sky pirates are coming back, and we didn’t just arrest her here. I wonder if the issue with the planes is in any way related to the trouble occurring with the pirates. Considering they were clearly troubled by something, I imagine they aren’t directly responsible, anyway. That wasn’t celebration, heh.

That fight was a bit of an endurance test on my side – Joshua got turned to stone by something, Estelle at that point ran out of… EP? The arts points. Was kinda topping off health and waiting for Scheherazade to chip away at Josette. Next time, I need to investigate if I can get items to restore those points easily right now, and if there are any items or possible orbments I could get equipped to heal that status effect that has been plaguing me.

Almost 24h of play time to finish the prologue :grimacing:

impressions

I was surprised and a little disappointed that Shera was only two levels above my characters, I expected her to be OP.

Her “limit break” art thing was fun though.

Welcome, to Chapter One

On my first play through of this game, when I didn’t realise NPCs changed dialogue and I missed out on and failed side quests, my total playtime was 47 hours. On my second play through where I went out of my way to talk to every single NPC (but still missed at least one hidden quest), the playtime was 148 hours. Make of that what you will.

I know I just don’t have it in me to be that thorough with almost any game (maybe if I absolutely ADORE the series and am replaying it as well, then), so I especially enjoy doing this one in a club because people have already been bringing up side stories around town that I didn’t see all of. Sharing that kind of thing is very appreciated
