Home Thread 空の軌跡

The stopping point this week is when you have 6 bullet points for the main quest. This is after you talk to the fisherman on the pier but before asking for a room for the night.

Side Quests
  • 盗まれた指輪

Make sure to accept the quest, but don’t complete it yet. It’s in a place you can’t access yet.

For book collectors, the hidden Chapter 4 is available this week. How to find: after you’ve spoken to セシル婆さん and クワノ老人, go to the market and talk to リブロ. You can find him at ミネ婆さん’s bookshop 「グローサー・ミネ」, which is in the northwest. She also has the latest issue of リベール通信 if you want it.

Vocabulary

Vocab Sheet , thank you to everyone who has been helping with this.

We also have an arts sheet if you’re struggling with the in-game version.

Please read the guidelines on the first page before adding any words.

Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

Posting Advice
  • When asking for help, please mention the page number, and check before posting that your question hasn’t already been asked. As the threads get longer, it becomes more convenient to use the Search function, which is located in the upper right corner of the forum. It is the magnifying glass which is near your profile picture! The best way to search is usually to type part of the sentence you are confused about, and select “in this topic”. This will show you all posts within the current thread which has that string of text.

  • Be sure to join the conversation! It’s fun, and it’s what keeps these book clubs lively! There’s no such thing as a stupid question! We are all learning here, and if the question has crossed your mind, there’s a very good chance it has crossed somebody else’s also! Asking and answering questions is a great learning opportunity for everyone involved, so never hesitate to do so!

If necessary, include an explanation of any discrepancies in the Ebook page numbers from physical page numbers. If there is an easy shortcut for some ebook versions to relate back to physical page numbers, it would be worth it to include it as a third bullet here, or if you want to use chapter page numbers instead of volume page numbers, as is the case with some manga. For example:
Example

For the Kindle version of this manga, the page numbers and the location number are always 3 apart. If you subtract 3 from the location, this will give you the accurate page number!

OR

Please use the chapter page numbers, instead of the volume page numbers. These are located in between the panels!

Discussion Questions

  1. What sentence/passage gave you the most difficulty? Feel free to request some help, or if you figured it out on your own break it down for the rest of us!

  2. What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?

  3. Was there any passage that you found particularly intriguing? Did it resonate with you (either positively or negatively)? Was it surprising? Offer any insight or new perspective? Was it just beautifully written?

  4. Initial impressions of those two new military people with faces?

  5. What are your expectations for the lead we’re currently following?

  6. Who wants to explain to Olivier that you’re not supposed to blow into strangers’ ears?

Week 15

I wasn’t expecting the orbment workshop side-story to mix with the main one, huh. The original owner at the bar is perking up and seems like he’s ready to start over again, but the shady new owner’s plans have gone wrong because of the burglary. Some suspicious object that’ll get him in trouble with authorities was stolen, and I think it might have some connection to the airship heist. 1) it’s weird that the pirates are robbing places while still dealing with a large-scale hostage/ransom situation. It’s suspiciously productive enough that both operations could be part of a larger plan. 2) I get the impression they were mainly targeting the workshop since Mirano says the pirates didn’t do research on the surrounding area if they didn’t hit her very wealthy house while her dad was kidnapped— supposedly by them. It’s also significant that the eyewitness saw them coming out of the workshop, specifically. Very sus.

On Olivier, I’m with Estelle. えげつねえ, my dude. Still, now that we’ve met some new characters with him as part of the team, I like the less professional angle he brings to these interactions. Poor fisherguy.

Speaking of the fisherman, you know, I’m something of a 釣りバカ myself :smirk: in games only, fish empathy too strong to do it irl so fishing mini-game when?? With the talk of legendary trout from the fisherman I’m hoping for one soon!

I’m afraid we’re a bit busy what with the active hostage situation and everything. Maybe some other time?

Psh what’s a few extra days in captivity when we could be out on the lake angling for legendary-rank fish :star_struck: Surely the hostages and their families will understand…

Thanks again for the arts chart! I put it to good use this week, moving pieces around a little to get some arts unlocked. Got the 50EP スパイラルフレア on Estelle for example, so I hope that proves to be worth it!

Spoilers

The new military guy we met was much more amiable, and knowing how game writing tends to go, I can’t help but be suspicious of him purely based on how cooperative he is, haha. Obviously the links to some new intelligence agency too. He has to have SOME scheme going on.

I’m excited to see Josette again. Maybe now we finally learn more about what the pirates are up to? The more we chase them around the more I get the feeling they aren’t going to be as villainous as they seem. Whatever the case is, they’ve sure been busy.

Despite my combat woes a few weeks back, coming back to this the last couple weeks has been pretty pleasant. I think the vibe of investigating with this group is getting its hooks into me. Despite the urgency of things happening around us, it’s laid back in a cozy way right now. Olivier makes the group dynamic more fun and I think his antics letting the game ease up on emphasizing Estelle being silly (or people treating her that way anyway) is making me enjoy her even more. Excited to see more. Hope we can maintain this for more games after too, because I think I’m firmly on board at this point.

Thank you for reminding me, I meant to look into it but forgot:

So, the numbers are the number of quartz you have in your orbment? And I presume that if you have a higher level quartz it counts more?

Does the placement of the quartz in the orbment matter?

I have mostly been abusing the special techniques so far :grimacing:

Yes, when you slot a quartz it contributes a number of points that you can see of its element and sometimes others too. When those points add up to at least the numbers given for an art, you unlock it.

Placement matters a lot because they are split into “lines” which basically serve as restrictions. Like a single orbment slot might count for both lines but then if you place the quartz on the left or right, you need the points to add up to a given Art all within the same line. Things placed in different lines aren’t added together.

Oh ok. But how can a single quartz count in multiple lines?

I only mean that in cases where it’s point from which the lines branch, basically.

I found an image online. I think this is the setup of Estelle’s, or someone? The yellow and blue paths are each a line, with 4 slots on yellow and 3 slots on blue. That central slot that it all starts from alone will contribute to both lines.

And along the top you can see the totals they’ve reached, and if you take the yellow element there for example, the character can unlock any arts that cost 5 yellow, but since it won’t add the two line totals, they cannot get ones that cost 6 or 7. The 2 yellow on the other side might not be wasted per se because they might be unlocking an art that costs 4 green + 2 yellow from that line, but it doesn’t add with what’s on top, make sense?

Ooh, ok , now I get it, thank you for the explanations!

Corollary on the orbments thing: the longer a line the more powerful arts you can put on it. Like Olivier who has one line, every quartz he has is added together which makes it easier to get more powerful arts. Slots further along the line cost more to open, and also increase your EP more.

Can you change/customize a character’s orbment in any way?

You mean like changing the lines or fixed elements? No. All you can do is open more slots and put quartz in them.

This investigation sequence is very good language practice. Pretty enjoyable too.
