WaniKani accepts a specific set of meanings that are listed when you do the lesson. It doesn’t list every possible meaning in the dictionary, both to avoid overburnening you with too many options at once, and also to avoid obscuring subtle differences in meaning. I mean, there’s sixteen different possibilities here, so why are you picking on that one? It also doesn’t accept “to recover one’s temper”.

Just focus on what WaniKani is expecting. It’s typically the most common usage of the word.

If you want to go with a specific alternate meaning, there’s always the “add user synonym” button. I wouldn’t use that too heavily, though.
