Precisely we would get to 51 pages max per week, with the exception of the first and the last week, but people could maybe read the prologue in the preceding week and the epilogue in the following week if they got worried… and as we learned, there’s a lot of empty space in the first chapter.
So I was not at all talking about 60-70 pages per week.
You mean if we had followed the first schedule? I would have researched some for you in that case
Admittedly, I was under the assumption that given this is the Advanced Book Club, the members have enough experience to take good care of themselves (e.g. by somewhat adjusting the schedule if needed, or by reading ahead, or whatever makes sense to that person). On the other hand, it seems that this particular pick has attracted a bunch of new members, which is great! It just didn’t match my expectation towards the audience. But I think I’m sorted now
For $5 I’ll give this a shot. Don’t expect me to keep up. I just want to feel what it’s like to have my brain thrown through a wall. At the very least I’ll try the vocab deck.
Despite what I said in the other thread, if you manage to fight through this, I’m sure you will learn a metric ton of stuff Just keep asking questions whenever you are stuck.
Do you have a Japanese address associated with the account (even a fake one)? If you don’t, make one up.
If you do, every once in a while, Amazon will decide you need to be in Japan. When that happens, there are a large number of free VPNs you can use to spoof that.
I was just scrolling idly through the jpdb vocab deck info, and was amused to see that 銀貨 appears in the book more often than 行く, and 商会 more often than なる, 来る or いる
(And Zipf’s Law is still faintly mind-boggling to me: 6216 unique words in the book, and almost half of them appear exactly once.)
Jpdb has been amazing! I’ve just been running through and so far it says I know %40 of the Kanji. On combination with Wanikani it really boosts my confidence.
Ahem… Coverage wise. I’ll get to the other metric yet!
Or maybe become a patron to link my level. That might help
If I’m done reading ビブリア古書堂の事件手帖1 by the time this club starts I’ll try joining. Then I might not continue depending on how well I can handle the difficulty and if I enjoy the story, but I really want to be reading at least a novel every two months so this would fit nicely.
I’ve been waiting for a Spice and Wolf book club for the motivation to read it I’m excited to read the original in Japanese and compare it to the English translation that I’ve already read. I read a little bit of the tenth volume and compared it…and the English translator forgot in the first ten pages two to three sentences of text!
