In read aloud last week, we discussed how week 10 being 22 pages and week 11 being 20 pages might be a bit rough. This is made up of four chapters of length 11, 11, 9, and 11. If we want, rather than doing 11 + 11 and 9 + 11, we could add a week and do 11, 11 + 9, and 11.

What should we do?
  • Keep the current schedule (22 / 20 pages)
  • Add an extra week (11 / 20 / 11 pages)
  • No preference

Well I failed to keep up again. Guess I’ll finish the section tomorrow.

Last chance to vote in the poll above. I will close the poll within a day.

Alright, I went ahead with this change.

Reminder for Sunday that we slightly changed the read aloud time!

Wasn’t really much to talk about last week was there? Well, this week concludes chapter 2, and with this we’re halfway through the book.

There’s so little discussion going on, I almost wonder if I should just make one thread for each (larger) chapter instead of each week at this point.

I would discuss, but I do not remember what happened exactly at those times.

I would discuss, but almost nothing happens each week. :disappointed:

This feels like the kind of book that would be better read fast, but I also have no motivation to read it faster.

I did have a good time reading it fast, so that might be the case!

By the way, what are we going to read after? Back to 獣の奏者?

I need a break from this author, personally. Also, I think 獣の奏者 books 3 and 4 are too long for a book club. The first two books combined were 848 pages. The next two are 1072 pages. That’s a lot of weeks at the current pace! And if we read more per week I don’t think the read aloud sessions would work as well, which is most of the fun I think.

We’re open to suggestions though.

I can totally relate to that! After this book especially…

Regarding suggestions, by now I have improved my reading skills enough to be mostly able to read what really interests me, and I have a hunch that my interests don’t match this group‘s interests too well, so… :pensive:

Ah, fair enough. People didn’t vote for reading it as a group either.
I guess I’ll read volume 3 on my own, then
