本好きの下剋上 home thread

Yeah, I had volumes 9-11 on my wishlist and they were ¥940 (now ¥1045).

You do get points when buying with points. They don’t reduce the points you receive if you buy using points. I bought one, waited for the points to show up, and then bought the next one using the points from the one before. Even with the inflated starting price, it’s worth it. I doubt I’ll see them again for effectively ¥522-¥561 (depending on the volume).

Nice!

I think I’ll probably just buy all of them through volume 22. I’m about 45% of the way through volume 8, and I’ve been enjoying it as much as always. Even when there’s little story progress, the characters and worldbuilding are still interesting. (And since it’s the start of an arc, it’s all setup, so no surprise there’s not much progress in half a book.) The chances of me dropping the series given my enjoyment so far is pretty low, so I might as well get it all on sale.

I bought 5 of the books in bulk since I needed to get a bunch for points before buying the rest anyway, but those points are taking forever to get added to my account…

EDIT: Oh, the order didn’t fully go through for some reason? How odd. It wants me to retry the order, but I’m concerned by this bad math, so I’m not sure what to do…

Well, I can’t repurchase the missing books (except one went through for some reason) until the failed order is fully canceled, which apparently make take up to 4 hours. So I currently have an awkward gap where I own books 1-13 and 18 and 19… I will be back tomorrow to hopefully buy 14-17 and 20-22.

It does take a while for the points to get added. I refreshed every couple of minutes while doing something else.

I’ve never had an order fail. That “50%” points calculation would definitely give me pause. Hopefully you’ll get refunded quickly and everything will update with the correct numbers.

The order didn’t go through, so the problem now is that I can’t purchase four of the books that it thinks I already have. Hopefully it clears up tomorrow.

@seanblue @catbus I see you added a bunch of books, probably getting spoiled a lot in the process
In a non-spoiler way, everytime I see the cover of volume 19 (which is a spoiler for people who haven’t finished arc 2), I wonder how it’s even possible proportion-wise. She has to be less than 1m tall… (don’t ask me how much that is in feet)

I am trying my best not to look at covers and definitely not read titles. But it would be much easier if my purchases would go through!! Honestly, I suspect I’m screwed at this point, so I’m probably out of a discount on books 14-17. I’m definitely never using the buy in bulk feature again! :rage:

I ignore the titles, but I can’t help but look at the pictures. I feel like the actual chapter titles are worse spoilers than anything else. The first chapter about (Vol. 7, Ch. 2 spoiler) ディルク was the worst so far. You didn’t even have a chance to guess what was going on since the author told you right from the beginning. I guess at least I don’t have to worry about annoying cliffhangers that make me wonder what happens next.

It looks like they added additional aspects to this sale. Volume 4 and volume 8 are now free again. If anyone doesn’t feel like buying all of the other volumes right now, you could at least pick those two up if you’re considering continuing the series. I’m assuming everyone already has volume 1 (it’s free as well).

They also cut the price in half for volume 9, and it still has 50% points back.

But I just bought volume 8 last week and I just bought volume 9 last night.

I was pretty annoyed by that as well. Fortunately I had already gotten volume 8 for free a year or so ago, but it’s kind of inconsiderate to put them on sale one day and then make them free (or cheaper) the next day.

Well, I have to contact them on Monday again to get help with buying volumes 14-17, so maybe I’ll ask them to throw me some credits while I’m on with them.

Did you end up getting all the volumes with half points back?

I got up through volume 22 with half points back. I put volumes 23-26 on my wishlist to check in the future since they weren’t a part of the sale.

Cool. I just bought 20-22, but I don’t plan to add the rest to my wishlist. Too easy to accidentally read the arc subtitle! Besides, these books will last me into next year, so I don’t think I’m in a rush to catch another deal at this point!

With volume 8, I feel like there was a fairly large spike in the number of words I don’t know. Not even words specific to the story. Just normal words for the most part. I’ve already highlighted 300+ words in half a book. I only add a subset of highlighted words to Kitsun to study, but with this many highlights I’ll probably end up with the most words added since the first volume. Not looking forward to the time it’ll take to go through all of them.

Season 3 of the anime has been announced for Spring 2022

(Be careful, the key visual in the news below spoils quite a lot)

I didn’t watch the anime yet, but according to the comments I’m guessing season 3 will cover around book 6/7/8.

Presumably it’ll just cover 6 and 7, to finish the second arc.

By the way, I heard that there was some scene at the end of the first season (I haven’t watched the anime) that was from a book far beyond book 3, despite season one ending with book 3. Do you know what book this scene was from? I’m curious to find out what it was, but only if it doesn’t spoil anything ahead of where I’m at (book 9).

Sorry, I didn’t watch the anime yet… But I’m tempted, I just found out it’s on Netflix. …Actually let’s watch the first episode :grinning:

Done!
Ok, well, surprisingly the very first scene of the first episode is actually taken from the end of book 5 (the dream), and then the anime is framed as a flashback. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they pull off a similar idea at the end of the first season. I will tell you when I get there !

It’s actually the first time I watch an anime after reading the LN in Japanese, so a few observations:

THE SPEED. Holly cow, in just 15 minutes she get isekaied, talk to her family, explore the house an go to the market and back with her mom… but it took me HOURS to get to this point in the book.

The house is much neater than everything I pictured. Because in the book Mayn makes quite a big deal about how filthy everything is, I was expecting a really ragged down dirt-poor dwelling, but apart for some dust it looks fine!

It can’t be helped I guess but the interesting thing in the book in which she use 『Japanese』 for complicated words instead of the local language and then people get confused seems not to be adapted in the anime, because of course they all just talk Japanese already.

I could also be misremembering. Maybe what I thought was at the end of the season was actually that first episode.

Yeah, that I did know about. As you said, not much they could do about that one.

One of the things I like in the book is マイン’s internal quips. That’s probably also completely lost in the anime.

How’s the voice acting so far? I watched a couple scenes, and I didn’t really like the voice actress they picked for マイン. Just didn’t fit how I imagined her character sounding.
