And so, another volume comes to a close. Until next year!
By the way, how’s your Japanese compared to last year? Did you feel any improvement while reading this volume? For me, I’ve been able to finish a chapter in one sitting, usually in about 20–25 minutes. Before, I had to take several breaks just to finish one, so my stamina has definitely gotten better.
I still struggle with some of the chapters, specially with some obscure references it makes sometimes (I guess they are not obscure for japanese readers though). Still need a lot of vocabulary to read this smoothly…
As for the reading, this manga is still kinda hard to parse for me, it goes on so many weird tangents that I feel I mostly don’t understand, but it is still an enjoyable read. See you guys on the next volume!
I finished this volume a few days ago!! (Late haha)
I enjoyed it! I agree that there’s also times when I don’t fully get what going on Sometimes for some of the jokes I just understand it on a vibes level haha
Also, less so to do with Japanese understanding itself, but I’ve noticed I kind of have a hard time reading 野崎くん quickly. I like the manga! But I wonder if the 4-koma aspect of it and just how dense it kind of is with dialogue and lots of different changing subjects? Makes it hard for me to read more than like 10-20 pages in a sitting
Not necessarily a bad thing, just something I noticed!!
Thanks to everyone who posted their thoughts, and see you next volume!!
One volume of 野崎くん has around 35–40k characters. It’s very text-dense, with occasional handwritten notes. 4-koma or not, you’re reading at least 7k characters every week, which is way more than most beginner-level manga. For comparison, one chapter of シャドーハウス has about 2k characters, and a whole volume is around 20k.
I still google things too, but not nearly as much as before. Also, learning Japanese has actually made me a much more patient person I can sit down and get through a whole chapter in one go now. That’s a big win for me.
