What was your favorite new vocab word from this week’s reading?
Was there any passage that you found particularly intriguing? Did it resonate with you (either positively or negatively)? Was it surprising? Offer any insight or new perspective? Was it just beautifully written?
This story feels super long. Lots of long sentences and not a lot happening in them. I’m feeling slightly fatiqued… though that’s probably mostly from trying to understand the sentences as best as possible. Feels a bit on the harder, more tedious side of things to me.
It’s still pretty interesting though now that a bit more is going on! Especially the short ‘interlude’ flashbacks with the protagonist and 正男お姉さん
I’m with you there. Lot’s of long sentences with not too much happening punctuated by moments of hilarity or wild twists. I had to check my comprehension because at first I didn’t realize that 正男ちゃん was putting the clothes on themself. Also, I just now realized that their name is literally “proper male”
Thank you for supporting my a-new-word-a-day quest
Srsly, how can I ever hope to get anywhere close to fluency in Japanese when I still encounter so many new words in English - btw a language that I started studying more than 40 years ago…
Meanwhile I’m enjoying this story quite a bit - more so than the previous ones, actually. It feels somehow ‘fresh’ to me. I look forward to reading a bit more each week. …though there’s a danger this may cause me to finish ahead of schedule. I’ll try not to.
Thinking about it now, her testing of his boundaries within their game reminds me quite a bit of the title story, where something similar happened, albeit in a very different fashion.
I love seeing contrasting impressions like this.
Pretty sure I’m fluent in my native language - and I still happen across new words often enough!
What exactly is the basis for their attraction to each other? At first I felt like the protagonist got her kicks out of breaking rules and then being forgiven. She first realised how exquisite it is to be forgiven by Youji when she accidentally spilled the coffee and afterwards she sought out this feeling again when she spiked the drink with pushpins. I had expected her to keep upping the ante on her transgressions, forcing ever greater acts of forgiveness, but I am not sure what I got this week. That melodramatic ‘suicide attempt’ (for what of a better word) didn’t seem to revolve around forgiveness. Maybe it’s not just forgiveness, but something broader than that: affirmation.
I am also finding it a bit of a trudge. Could be the different style, but I think the increased weekly load also contributes. But there’s only one way to get faster at reading and that is to read!
