役人 - alternative is public servant, but civil servant is not accepted?

Just wondering if there’s a reason? I tend to use civil servant over public servant (perhaps it’s a British English thing?)

I’m Australian and ran into this too. I just added civil servant to the synonyms, but it’s worth flagging to the @Mods

Hey kinglott! I will bring this up to the team, because I am not 100% sure that a public servant or civil servant are interchangeable terms. I’m reading that they are similar, but do slightly different jobs in terms of rank within the government.

In any case, I will get the WaniKani content team on it!

I’m fairly certain that the exact nuances of the term vary by the specific region, and getting into the minute details of what is a civil servant vs. a public servant vs. a local government officer according to the region is a joyful and weird rabbit hole to follow

I’m Bri’ish too and yeah this one is a bit of a leech for me. I probs should add civil servant as a user synonym, makes sense to me over public servant. Probably wouldn’t ever really say something like ‘My Aunt is a public servant’.

I think it is safe to add civil servant as a user synonym, because it does appear as a translation in ウィズダム英和辞典 / ウィズダム和英辞典

We will let you know if we add as an official meaning or to the allow list!
