Discussion Guidelines

Hidden here, you know the drill

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.

Lol, in Japan a shopkeeper once tried to convey a price to me using the bottom one here and I had absolutely no clue what number he was indicating.

That happened to me in China many moons ago, because the fun thing about one-hand counting in China is that it doesn’t stop at five:

Quickly catching up, week 4 was a bit difficult to me, this week was more reassuring with the more direct and straightforward dialogue.

So, Maru is definitely implied to have some super power, right? With how he “entered” the 人食い to grab his heart/brain. Also I think some burst of super speed was implied? Maybe he could only show it off now with no one around? (Well, not anymore…)
For now my current theory is that:
The kids in the facility are part of a program to clone super soldiers or whatever
I was assuming that the couple outside we are following are the original persons the clones were based on, stuck outside in the post apocalyptic world, and that they are looking * for* the facility since it’s a safe place, but now I’m wondering if there’s isn’t some time skip implied and they are the same kids from the facility after having already escaped.
Or they have escaped from the facility, but they are the “previous generations” of clones/super soldiers/whatever. So there’s basically a whole bunch of people with the same face running around because they are all cloned from the same starting DNA and are now different ages.And the place they are looking for is something else.
I’m very confused but very intrigued!
