夏目友人帳 Off-Shoot Book Club (Currently: Volume 1)

It’s that time again! This time, chapter four:

I also wanted to ask everyone: how are we feeling about the pace of this so far? Do we think we should keep this pace (one chapter every two weeks), or should it still be slower?

I’m not reading yet (right now my books are packed up anyway so I couldn’t read them if I wanted to :joy:), but I’m a definitely all in one go kinda reader so one chapter every two weeks is probably the slowest I’d want to go.

happy to be overruled by the group though

my pace

I just finished Ch 2. The physical copy I have is so hard to read, I’m going to wait until the Bookwalker version goes on sale to buy digital and finish it (ch 3-4). This is coming from someone who loves reading on paper, but the font is just way too tiny on paper for me to enjoy.

I haven’t decided yet if I’ll read beyond volume 1.
The art is impenetrable for me, I’ve never struggled so much to understand what is going on, despite having read books and manga up to level 31. I enjoy the stories a lot once I finally piece together what’s going on.

Sorry not to be more helpful and positive!

If the club continued it would help encourage me to read more of this series (I have every vol physical and digital), but I’m also dead set on focusing on blackout bingo so I want to read more but w/o the club I’d probably put it away for a while…

Overall the 2 week pacing and all does work out very well and wouldn’t hinder blackout goals…so I could go either way but would be leaning slightly more to continuing.

But I also want to read

This is also yokai but the anime never actually finished so I hunted down all the physical and found the whole set but haven’t read it. Doubt the anime will ever finish an would like to see how this turns out…

I did buy the whole thing digitally though and mokuro’d, but if you do want physical it might not be easy to find.

I don’t have too many books I want to read or anything

I’ve read the first chapter of vol 2 and it’s a lot easier. I also found this first volume to be really really hard (it took me a year to get through it), which is actually part of why I don’t want to reread it. I’d challenge you to make your decision in the next volume if you can.

I’m pretty behind yet, but that’s more due to personal/life issues the book itself. I started a new job and hopefully I’ll get into the swing of things soon
