Discussion Guidelines

Everybody should feel free to post and ask questions–it’s what makes book clubs fun! But please do not post until you are familiar with Spoiler Courtesy!

Spoiler Courtesy

Please follow these rules to avoid inadvertent ネタバレ. If you’re unsure whether something should have a spoiler tag, err on the side of using one.

  1. Any potential spoiler for the current week’s reading need only be covered by a spoiler tag. Predictions and conjecture made by somebody who has not read ahead still falls into this category.
  2. Any potential spoilers for external sources need to be covered by a spoiler tag and include a label (outside of the spoiler tag) of what might be spoiled. These include but are not limited to: other book club picks, other books, games, movies, anime, etc. I recommend also tagging the severity of the spoiler (for example, I may still look at minor spoilers for something that I don’t intend to read soon).
  3. Any information from later in the book than the current week’s reading (including trigger warnings that haven’t yet manifested) needs to be hidden by spoiler tags and labeled as coming from later sections.
Instructions for Spoiler Tags

Click the cog above the text box and use either the “Hide Details” or “Blur Spoiler” options. The text which says “This text will be hidden” should be replaced with what you are wishing to write. In the case of “Hide Details”, the section in the brackets that is labelled “Summary” can be replaced with whatever you like also (i.e, [details=”Chapter 1, Pg. 1”]).

Hide Details results in the dropdown box like below:

Example

This is an example of the “Hide Details” option.

The “Blur Spoiler” option will simply blur the text it surrounds.

The ninja kid is one of the popular kids??? I never would have guessed. Also, it’s kind of surprising that even though these are the popular kids, they get to school early enough to play multiple rounds of word games. Maybe this is a prestigious high school? I can’t remember if they mentioned that in the beginning.

Oh, didn’t realize we were at the very end, neat, one more book out of my weekly reading list. Quite enjoyed it, I’ll probably continue it sometime, though my list is way too long.

I don’t think this is in the morning, more likely during one of the breaks. Probably even lunch break or something, those sometimes last longer, don’t they? Also, we’ve seen them do about 5 rounds of games, 2 of the ones they played without komi and tadano, one round of the second and 2 rounds of the third
That can’t take that long

Ah, you’re probably right. It’s probably a break between classes.

I was a bit confused about ‘kス’ on page 174, but once I heard it was pronounced かす in the Netflix adaptation I realised it was meaning 5 of this word. Maybe it’ll help someone else as well

I wanted to say that although I was not very active in the threads, I thouroughly enjoyed this book club! :slightly_smiling_face: To be honest, first I didn’t want to join, because the series just didn’t seem interesting to me. But I wanted to do more than just the ABBC and I have to say, I am so glad! I even read ahead because I wanted to know how the story continues and I’ll definitly read another volume (maybe starting end may, not sure yet)! The manga had me laughing multiple times, it was very well paced, the characters are interesting and engaging, in short I really liked it!
On another note: I actually found this manga WAY easier (and also way more intersting) than Ruri Dragon. Maybe it’s my vocab, but honestly, Ruri has me looking up words constantly, but Komi did not. I found myself dreading reading Ruri each week and looking forward to reading Komi. I’ll still finish Ruri though (I’m already close to finishing and I really like getting 100 % :smiling_face_with_tear: It’s a curse…).
Anyways, thanks to all the lovely people answering questions and filling out the vocab sheet! It really helped a lot!

Ruri did not have pretty much an entire chapter dedicated to hand written text on a black board. That single part took me more time than several weeks did with Ruri.

TBH Ruri Dragon has larger jumps in difficulty, one week you have barely any text, the next week you have several pages of difficult, old-timey exposition, while Komi-san at least stayed about consistent. the whole way through.

So this was the end, huh? I enjoyed this so much that not only did I finish volume 1 ahead of time, I managed to read through volume 2 and 3 too, and might have read more except I don’t own anymore currently. (I read physical.)

Enjoyed this one a lot. Made me laugh and I could get into the zaniness of it. Not sure it’ll hold up for whatever number of volumes it is up to now, but I definitely plan to get a few more when I do my next book order. (Which is probably not until Christmas as a gift to myself so… not for a while yet.)

I have also been enjoying this a lot. I bought myself 28 volumes as a birthday gift so I guess I’ll be slowly making my way through them in the coming months

Come on guys, I am trying really hard to hold myself back and not buy any more volumes for now but you’re not helping it! I already spent too much money last month ordering different manga which I haven’t even finished reading yet :joy:

Please don’t look at my bookmeter and see how much I own and haven’t read. :see_no_evil:

For what it is worth, it does hold up for the first three volumes. I can’t speak past that. ^^

All done, just a little late!

Some parts of this definitely felt pretty easy for the grade on natively, but other parts had some more annoying things to read (basically just whenever najimi word vomits )

THANK YOU. this was driving me crazy lmao

Was a fun read, but the digital quality was a little frustrating sometimes. I might come back to this way later as something to kinda binge read (in physical), but for now I think I’m satisfied. I also do not have the space for that many volumes.

So I finally made it.
It took me waaaay to long. The reason being, that I just didn’t quiet get into the series and the digital quality was just frustrating and demoralising. I am still glad that I read it and had some nice funny moments and some useful words for my Anki though.

I hope the next book motivates me more and I can keep up with the book club.
