保存 vs. 保持 - Meaning

I have difficulties differentiating between the meanings of these two words, I keep mixing them up! No matter how many times I read the information on the two. Anyone who has any ideas on how I can make both meanings stick and stop mixing them up? The reading is not a problem, but the meaning on the other hand…

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

If you mean within WaniKani… they both accept “preservation” as a meaning, so that would simplify answering correctly.

If you mean actually using them, here’s a Japanese thesaurus entry for each.

Thank you!

I know they would both be accepted, but I’ve been trying to avoid using that meaning to make myself remember which is which. Not that it has helped, considering that they are both on my wall of shame.
