Wouldn’t be the weirdest thing about the movie.
This nomination slipped past me. Watching it nearly slipped past me too. Further, had I known we had a pick that showcased composited stop-motion animation techniques it certainly would have had one of my votes.

Started the movie without any pretext so when they answered death with a riff on The Rocky Horror Picture Show the farcical comedy started to surface and the awkward blocking started to make sense. I had time to fit this watch in late Thursday night. I apologized Friday morning for my sudden outbursts of laughter. Solid dark humor. What a way to start the club!
The movie production feels heavily influenced by an animator, a stop-motion animator specifically. An edit before you shoot anything, frame number aware director, intent on timing human actors the way an animator would. Intentionally pushing or pulling a beat to remind the audience who is in control. By the end, so many anomalies had occurred that replacing the actors with clay puppets for a cliff side dangle only felt natural, and hilarious.
I assume you’re probably already familiar with Jan Švankmajer? If you’re into stop motion like this, it’s hard to beat him.
