ウスズミの果て 🏚️ Offshoot Book Club - Volume 3

oh hey, look at that, last week of the volume!

As previously, there will be a single week of break and then we’ll be moving over to volume 4! (Even I get to participate this time)

Finished the volume, so I finally caught up! Enjoyed it as usual.

So, now we have three characters with their own weapons. I like the characters and the occasional action scenes have been good, but I do hope the series doesn’t veer too much into the ‘action’ direction from now on because what I particularly liked about this manga was the quiet exploration of the world (also when it was just her alone at the start).

That’s pretty much it for me too. Here’s hoping!
Looking forward for Volume 4.

Ch. 23

Same. Especially with an MC as overpowered as Saya, you have to be careful not to let the story devolve into repetitive fight scenes that’s just her slaughtering one enemy after the other. So I was glad to see that it turned straight back to exploration after the fight. They even found some clues, what with the new mysterious organization that built the arc.

Ch 21

Imma be real, I skipped a few lookups in the first part of the chapter when they were discussing all the technical stuff.

I kind of don’t think it’s said specifically? But if it did, maybe in the first volume…

Ch 22

This lil’ guy is so cute :joy:

Wow, exciting chapter!

It looks like Saya is cracking the blade with her fingers :open_mouth: strong!

Chapter 23

I had a little trouble understanding his speech here… Is he saying he wants to be remade as an 永遠の子 ? Or is it something about revenge.

Ch 23

Not sure. In the whole recording, the pilot is talking to a mysterious “you” (御身), and here they are saying they wanted to serve “you”, but I’m not sure what to make of the 永遠の子 part. Were they hoping to become an 永遠の子, maybe with technology they were developing to make people immortal? Or is the person they are talking to an 永遠の子?

Ch 24

This chapter was pretty hard again. Not sure I got all the details right. But I really appreciate that the plot is now advancing at such a steady pace. Nearly every chapter, we get more clues about Usa and the larger mysteries of the world and the events that led to humanity’s near extinction. The number of survivors is increasing pretty rapidly, too.

In the Archive section, we see a small space shuttle departing from the arc. So I guess it’s likely that these were the people that founded the organization that created and sent Saya, and they had the knowledge from their mother organization who remained behind.

chapter 23

Oh, I misread 御身 as a reflexive pronoun and was thinking he was talking about himself, that makes a bit more sense.

Edit: when I reread the line I was confused about, it looks like ‘You, as an 永遠の子, will carry out revenge (against the aliens?)’ This would make sense, since Saya is clearly a match for the aliens.

Ahhhh, intentionally obscure  I guess we’ll find out.

Where does the revenge part come from? I thought お仕え was related to 仕える (to serve, to attend). Meaning the pilot wanted to serve this 御身 as an 永遠の子 and “walk alongside them” (second part of the sentence).

Oh, I was getting this in jisho when I searched 仕えし

Is it not that?

Isn’t it the i stem (nominization?) version of つかえる?

This makes more sense than what I was thinking.

I agree with this now  I’ll just leave with my terrible dictionary-ing skills :face_in_clouds:

Edit: Ok, I’m all caught up now. I’m kind of tempted to buy physicals of this series because the art is so detailed, but maybe I’ll wait and see what the direction of the series is like.
