🐕 わんにゃん探偵団 🐈 Book Club

CDJapan has the two we haven’t read yet on backorder. So if there are a lot of people who want to read the physical book, we’ll want to wait until December because it could well take 6 weeks before the book arrives.

I’m just going to take the liberty here, hehehe.

Which book are you planning to buy? (If you already have the book, please don’t vote )

  • I am buying the physical book
  • I am buying the ebook
  • I’m not reading along, I just like polls

At this rate, sounds like everyone should be preparing to order all the earlier books from this author, just in case! (ミルキー detective series is 13 books long.)

Could have used a “I already own the book” option

Maybe add a note asking people not to vote if they already have it?

Gah, you can tell I am not an experienced book club runner like you  Added your suggested note!

Ha, tis easy to critique something that already exists

I stumbled upon a box set of these, but couldn’t figure out how to order them - I might need to ask OMG to do on my behalf…

If you’ve liked what you’ve read of the わんにゃん books, I highly recommend it.

The art style took me a while to get used to (but so did the わんわん books after the amazing art in the にゃんにゃん books). And that’s pretty much my only “complaint”.

It’s earlier work by the author, but the cases are fairly solid. Some are really easy to figure out if you’re paying attention. Others are easy to miss out on the more minute of details.

The weight of the text (amount of narration and dialogue per page, and amount of kanji use) is similar to the わんにゃん books.

The main character I didn’t initially find to be nearly as likable as わんにゃん leads, but three and a half books in, I’m starting to warm up to Detective Milky a little.

I already own all three Wanwan ebooks (bought via BookLive a while ago). I don’t mind starting in September/October at all. If 10 minute biography wins in the ABBC, I probably won’t read along. But even if a book wins that I’m interested in reading, I can handle both.

Personally, I would love if we start soon. But if anyone says that they don’t have the books yet and won’t be able to get them until October or if anyone says they want to read Wanwan 2 but also want to read with the ABBC but they can’t handle both, I don’t mind if we start later (I can always read other stuff in the meantime).

I also already own the ebooks so will happily start whenever! Personally I’d prefer a break as I’ve taken on Harry Potter, but I’ll join in if everybody wants to start earlier

I already have all 5 books, but I had been looking forward to a break when it was first suggested that we might not start the next book until early November.

How would people feel about waiting until the new year, for a clean start in January? That would provide a new book option to beginners a couple of months after 10分で読める starts, and I feel like people are quite… inundated, perhaps, with book club options at the moment?

I wouldn’t mind waiting until the new year, it would let me read にゃんにゃん and get a chance to actually study a bit more grammar. With all the book clubs I’m in at the moment I just have enough time to do all the reading each week

I could live with it. At this point in my Japanese studies I could do with reading them a bit quicker, but it is an ABBC book at the end of the day, so let’s stick with the tempo that best suits the absolute beginners. My reading ability wouldn’t be where it is now if it weren’t for the awesome start I got with the Nyan Nyan book clubs

Hmm, didn’t have this thread on watching. I have the remaining books and happy to start whenever. Happy to leave it a few months and start in November or January. Thanks Radish8 for organising us, I don’t know how you stay on top of so many book clubs! You do such a fantastic job of organising things!

I am also happy to wait until the New Year, thank you. If I find myself with too much free time, I can do as DollyDaydream and go back and read にゃんにゃん1.

Hear hear! :trophy:

Well I had been thinking to run an Ojisama book club after Big Brother Rental, so I got let off the hook for that one at least :stuck_out_tongue:

I found it…
I think…
But…
first I only got food/candy
Then when I applied the “Japanese Books” I got… well… something else
The actual books came further down, but the first hits looks… not safe for work

There were 6 selling the set of 18…

:sob:

So the set was around 15000, and most sell for 1100, so would come up to 19800 if buying all separately.
But shipping is usually so high per item, but the bundles cost almost the same to ship (at least much lower than 18x shipping)
Even if they are sold from same person, it will get more expensive buying them not as a bundle.
I’ll wait and see, if we actually do end up reading I might grab just a few at a time then.

If I’d know that would come up, I would have suggested what I search for to find it: 「ミルキー 名探偵」

And for digital, only the first 13 are available =( The last one came out May of 2011, so I’m a bit concerned whether the rest will get digital releases. But I’m only four books in for now, so Japan has time to correct this most egregious of infractions.

I never really confirmed, but I’m definitely thinking to start the next one in January, once 10分 has been going for a few weeks already. It just seems a bit silly to start the two books at the same time, even if they’re not both to everyone’s tastes.

I’ll post a home thread SoonTM so that hopefully new people looking to join in have plenty of time to find the book.
