I’m going to stop being a wuss - we don’t start for nearly 6 weeks, so if I start now and make notes of stuff I can’t figure out by myself, I should be able to keep up with the group.
Okay, I’m going to adjust the schedule a bit to follow more of a one-page-per-day pace for the first story (once I get home and can see where to put the story breaks). We’ll keep just a little increase so you end up reading 9 pages per week for the solution.
I want this to be as accessible as possible to beginners, so no point going too fast! I might add in a break week between stories 1 and 2 as well.
Then, while we’re in the midst of story 2 we can vote on whether we want to keep the pace down for story 3 as well. I agree with @MissDagger that everyone will naturally get quicker by that point (and it helps if you have to push yourself).
@Rowena hooray! Knew we’d wear you down eventually
I’m going to give this one a try. I think it’s a more appropriate challenge for my current level than 「霧のむこうのふしぎな町」. That said, I ordered 「にゃんにゃん探偵団おひるね―赤いとびらの家事件の巻」 from Amazon JP and the page currently says:
Usually ships within 1 to 3 weeks.
It’s still nearly six weeks till we start, so you should be totally fine glad to have you with us!
The schedule’s been updated to include an extra week for story one. Let’s see how we go with that is this going to be anybody’s first attempt at a book?
(I just read p.6, and with only a couple of vocab and grammar look-ups I understood the whole page. It only took me 5-6 mins. I just might be able to do this )
So where does this book go in the Bookclubs Master List? As an upcoming in the ABBC, or put with the first one as a spin-off?
I would suggest, especially with the recently adjusted pace, that it would be appropriate as an ABBC entry.
Oh yes, of course. After all the first volume is in the ABBC. I was just wondering where exactly on the list.
Sorry, misunderstood slightly .
I think it would be tidier as an upcoming; linear rather than branching.
Nice one, I’ll add it now!
In light of my earlier post that reading p6 was easy, I must confess that I got a word on p8 that took over an hour to figure out - good thing I started early!! It was frustrating during the search, but I was elated when I got it sussed.
A little introduction to the characters from the book taken from the book’s character page. Always easier to read something if you aren’t getting tripped up by names!

I think my copy will arrive by Friday so I will be able to look at it in then, but I wanted to mention that the Amazon JP link does not work for previewing the book for me. It shows me the cover but there is not option to “look inside.” (Luckily, the preview at BookWalker works.)
Oh, how odd if you just click on the cover, you can’t then scroll down?
Regardless, glad your book is arriving soon ^^
It doesn’t even let me click on the cover. I can view it larger if I click “see this image”, but there is definitely no preview.
I was saving this until closer to the start date, but in light of Radish8’s post above…
And if you’re new to reading books, don’t panic - this page is way more vocab dense than the regular pages!
Oooo! I love visuals. どうもありがとうございました。
I’m halfway through the first one! I hope I’ll be able to finish that one on time so that I can join this time around!
