My current theory is that when he wins and confesses that he was waiting to win to confess she will decapitate him with a pawn piece
It’s time to graduate in chapter 223.
How many familiar faces backs-of-the-heads do you recognize in this panel?
Interesting also that it seems that they are separated by gender

My favorite panel from this week’s chapter
I feel this final confession fits the whole theme of the manga very well, considering it’s a rom-com. There’s no big emotional build up but that’s fine - Ayumu confessing every time Urushi says もう一回 and then she going んあ feels like we’ve just come full circle from how the manga started. It’s cute, endearing and funny even if it’s not the most moving confession in the world.
Looking forward to see how things are tied up in the final chapter next week!

He finally beat her. And he did it twice in a row! I would have expected Urushi to still win most games, but for Ayumu’s win rate to go up over time as he gets better, but I wonder if he’s just going to start winning a bunch now. Of course, with one chapter left, we may never find out.
It was cute that they were both going to say the same thing. It may have worked out even if Ayumu had lost, because it seemed like she had made up her mind to tell him when the reality of it being the end of her high school life hit her. Her confessing to him after winning instead of the other way around would have been quite the twist ![]()
Final Chapter
Favorite panel:
I mentioned how we’ve come full circle in my comments in the previous chapter, but this final chapter just makes it clear it was completely intentional.

Woah, that’s awesome! My memory isn’t good enough to catch stuff like this, so thanks for pointing it out!
It was fun to see Urushi turn the tables, but of course, Ayumu had to win in the end. Maybe one day Urushi.
At least she used to win at Shogi, but even that’s not a sure thing anymore ![]()
This was a really cute manga, I honestly didn’t really read rom coms before starting the manga clubs here at wanikani but I did find them a lot more enjoyable than I would have thought. There is something about the lighthearted will they won’t they that I definitely understand now, hahaha.

On this manga in particular, we knew what the endgame was (even if a certain thick-browed girl tried to sway is in a different direction), and I think it was always more about the journey than the destination.
On that note, this sure was a fun one and I’m glad to have taken it with you all, I’ll for sure be seeing many of you around on the other book clubs but it was a fun ride, thank you for taking it with me!
And of course thank you Chris for running the bookclub, wouldn’t have been possible without you
