くまクマ熊ベアー easy light novel - informal book club

According to Natively, this is one of the easiest light novels. Natively level 21, so approximately upper N4 - lower N3. I have started reading it and it’s fairly easy. No long sentences and easy kanji. Another bonus is that it’s available for free on Syosetu, which means it’s easy to read with browser plugins. All in all a good intro to the world of light novels. This is the first book in the series, which has 22 books all in all, so we can keep going for a long time if we want to.

I have started the first book a few times, but I think it would be easier to read it with a club. Do any of you want to read it with me?

A dedicated gamer and antisocial shut-in downloads an update to her favorite fantasy RPG–only to find herself sucked into the game world for real. Reset to level one and equipped with only a cute bear onesie that grants her impressive abilities, Yuna sets out to explore her new reality–even though the fact that she can’t seem to take the bearsuit off gives her paws, er, pause!

A tentative schedule (but since this is an informal book club, you can jump in any time)
The first book has 26 chapters, so let’s try 2 chapters per week. We can see if we want to go faster or slower after a few weeks.

Date Chapters
June 1-7 1 & 2
June 8-14 3 & 4
June 15-21 5 & 6
June 22-28 7 & 8
June 29 - July 5 9 &10

Let’s start with this schedule and then decide if we want to read faster.

I don’t think we need any weekly threads, so let’s keep everything in this thread.

I remember last time I tried my hand at Japanese I heard this is a good one to read, but my vocabulary is so stinted. Might be a good challenge for me once I set up Yomitan and that.

I would love to, however I think I’m at my book club limit at the moment. I might try to follow along as and when I find the time.

We’re around the same level too. Might be a good challenge for both of us!

I read the first chapter today. It really is a good intro to the world of light nobels! Easy grammatikk, easy vokabular, short sentences.

I’ve read volume one and am working on volume two. I’ve definitely learned a lot in the process. Not a ground-breaking story, but it keeps my interest.

The anime is good too, but I wish it had Japanese subtitles. I’ve found them for season two (Bear Punch) but not season one. Not even Japanese websites seem to have them, so I’m thinking they just didn’t bother. (RIP the deaf, I guess.) If anyone has any, let me know! I may just struggle through figuring out the dialogue by listening.

It always bothered me that this implies she physically can’t remove the suit, but that’s not the case, she just wouldn’t want to (since she’s so weak without it lol).
