When I was in Osaka a few months ago, I stumbled upon this book called ねこラジオ by 北野勇作 (きたの ゆうさく) at the MARUZEN & JUNKUDO in Umeda. This is the final book in the 3-part microfiction series by the author Kitano Yusaku and as you can probably tell by the cover, it’s all about cats.
The beauty of this book (besides the fact that it’s about cats) is that each page is only made up of a few sentences which means you can easily tackle a few pages in one setting without getting discouraged from constantly having to look up words.
Speaking of which, I would say that this book is perfect for those who are comfortable with the N3/N2 vocab and grammar. I also find the writing itself pretty simple and straightforward (easier to grasp than コンビニ人間, for example). The whole book reads almost like a series of quirky short poems, to be honest.
If you’re looking to break into the world of Japanese literature or want something relatively short and manageable,I highly recommend ねこラジオ. Make it your summer read!
