✴️ NARUTO ナルト ✴️ Informal Book Club

Now that the JLPT is over, I’m excited to finally have the time to jump (SHOUNEN JUMP REFERENCE?) back into the series where I left off. The next arc to drop is the Konoha Crush Arc this weekend, where the story picks up after the suspense of the Chuunin Exams and we see the village plunge into TOTAL MADNESS!!

The previous arc was the longest in the entire series at nine volumes, but the rest that follow are quite succinct. Konoha Crush is only a tight two volumes long and hosts two of the most iconic battles in the series - master versus master, and monster versus monster :smiling_imp:

See you in a few days! ^–^

The third NARUTO arc is now posted! This is “Konoha Crush” - the beginning of the end for Part 1 of the series. Now that the story has set up its worldbuilding and shown you what the life of shinobi looks like, everything gets torn to pieces very quickly. There are two major battles in this short arc and they both had me flipping rapidly through the pages, desperate to figure out what was going to happen!! I hope you enjoy :dagger::snake:

No warning! Just NARUTO!! The discussion thread for Arc 4 is now posted :fire::sunglasses:

The “Search for Tsunade” Arc is the second-to-last arc in Part 1 of the series, and is a tidy three volumes long. Despite the arc title being focused on Tsunade, this segment of the story also has a newfound focus on Sasuke (our favorite emo princeling) and violent revelations about his dark past. We’re introduced to new enemies (do they have something to do with said princeling?!?) though we’re not yet strong enough to face them! But just a short introduction is all we need to motivate us to work even harder to become strong shinobi :muscle:

(btw we’re all shinobi in these summaries that i write, like, if you read this then you are also a character in naruto) (that’s why we gotta work extra hard to defeat the bad guys!!)

:fire: It’s nearly time for the FINAL NARUTO ARC discussion to drop!! :fire:

In this concluding arc of the story, there are three vital sub-arcs: the reveal Sasuke’s true origin story in its entirety, the changing of casual background characters into strong and deeply loved side characters, and a teammate vs. teammate fight so iconic that it’s still referenced to this day! [1]

The final volume is wrapped up with a separate storyline - Kakashi Gaiden - that cools off the heat of the fiery Arc 5 conclusion with a few chapters about Kakashi’s childhood amidst the war. Since it’s technically a different and extremely interesting story, but short and in the same volume as the end of Arc 5, I’m conflicted on whether to group them together in the discussion or not? What are your thoughts :man_bowing:

  • Separate stories can be separate threads :orange_book::blue_book:
  • Group them together for simplicity :books:

The end is finally here! The final NARUTO arc discussion thread (which I’ve grouped together with Kakashi Gaiden for ease) has now been posted. Can you believe how fast the time has gone?! But fear not, the best part of an informal book club is that the reading schedule never ends  :relieved:

The “Sasuke Retrieval” arc covers volumes 20-27 and follows Sasuke’s descent into darkness… but can Naruto pull his best friend out before it’s too late?

Hey I was wondering if anyone has seen these versions of Naruto in person? They are the SHUEISHA JUMP REMIX versions, or sometimes listed as Convenience Store Editions. They look like omnibuses, but I can’t find any sizing anywhere or any information on the quality of the pages.

I haven’t specifically checked out the Naruto ones, but I’m familiar with Jump remix/conbini editions in general. I’ll add comparison and pics with a measuring tape in a moment, but the paper quality is pretty low. It’s maybe a smidge better than Shonen Jump Weekly pages but much lower quality than the tanko and bunko editions.

They’re akin to omnibuses, but usually they contain only an arc or two.

They’re slightly larger than tankobons or about 18.2x12.7cm
