Hi, everyone! We’re about a month out from the next Readathon and I wanted to get some community input on the best date for participation in the challenge.
Each 24-Hour Readathon takes place on a solstice/equinox date (because it sounds cool and is easy to track ) and the next event will be the Fall Equinox on Sunday, Sept. 22. However, we can easily move the challenge to take place before or after the exact date if it seems that more people will be able to get involved on a different day.
Please vote in the poll and/or reply with comments you may have. Remember that timezones do not matter, everyone reads in their local time, so choose the date(s) that personally work best for you to sit around and eat books all day.
Please choose the Fall Readathon dates that work best for you:
This is an anonymous poll and your vote can be changed at any time.
- Friday, 20th September
- Saturday, 21st September
- Sunday, 22nd September
- Monday, 23rd September
I’ll leave this open until Friday the 6th so I’ll have two-ish weeks to get the thread up before starting.
In the Summer Solstice challenge, 16 participants collectively read for over 43 hours and finished 2,500 pages and 56,000 characters. This will be our record to beat for next time… I’m already planning my book stack ahead of time
FAQ
Who can participate?
Anyone! This challenge is open to anyone of any reading level. Our goals are community-based, so every little bit helps us smash our previous reading record!
Do I need to read for 24 full hours?
No, this challenge takes place over a 24-hour period but you are only expected to read for the amount of time that you’re able. Some of us may make it a personal challenge to read for as many hours within that period as possible, but even 1 hour of reading is an admirable feat!
Do the books need to be in Japanese?
Yes, this challenge is meant to encourage us to read more Japanese. If you read other language books, please do not count them in the overall tally.
What if I’m busy that day?
There is some flexibility with the date – you are welcome to attempt the challenge on the following day, but please choose a reasonable time distance. A day or two after the official finish is fine, but if you won’t have a chance until the following week, waiting until the next Solstice/Equinox may be your best choice.
