Your worst typos WaniKani has accepted

Had a stroke but WK still accepted it luckily

Don’t have the screenshots, but the worst for me have to do with bad words hahaha

The best/worst I can remember are:

  • Ass instead of ask

  • Whore instead of whole

also, ç and + sneak in a lot at the end of my words when I click on them along with “enter” :upside_down_face:

I sadly don’t have any screenshots at hand because I use a script with a lightning mode that automatically advances to the next review item after you give a correct answer, but I’ve had plenty of cases where I’ve accidentally typed in what amounts to letter vomit because I was trying to type really fast, and most of the time WK would accept it. If it didn’t, I could just put in my answer again on desktop (and do it better this time) or just override it with “my answer was correct” in Tsurukame if what I meant to type was an acceptable answer.

Ah yes, vacant taco. My favourite type of taco.

I laughed way too hard at this one, then wondered if it was even a possible typo or an experiment. But, I see that a qwerty key board has “c” and “x” next to on another and “o” and “i” next to one another, so totally possible!

I just witnessed Wanikani accept “sinner” as an answer for 勝者 (“winner”), lmao.

Probably just because the S key is adjacent to the W key, but it still made me laugh.

@Mods

I don’t think I screenshotted it, but the other day I did the review for ()りる and I was meant to let you guys know, I think I put “to not be enough” when the answer is “to be enough” and it accepted it.

I’m not sure how common it would be for people to mistake it for “to not be enough” like I did, but might be worth blacklisting anyway!

Hi Lewby! Thanks for the ping. This is certainly a good candidate for the block list for 足りる! I will get this added.

@mods this should probably be another one for the block list considering both kanji are on the same level.

Hi Jimjam1099! Thanks for the ping! ‘Quantity’ seems like a good candidate for the block list. I was curious and tried it out on the vocabulary word too and got the same correct answer, so I will add ‘quantity’ to the block list for both!

Seems like a large percentage of these errors could be eliminated if there was a good way to differentiate between misspelled words (i.e. real typos) and legit words that have similar spelling.

I wonder if there’s a compact javascript-based spell-checker that could identify misspelled words, and then WK could apply typo forgiveness to misspelled words…

I’ll have to look into that.

Just wondering, isn’t the first on meant to mean “one strike” or “one hit”. What’s it accepting “atriie” instead of?

“a strike,” probably

I wasn’t miles off, but the phrase “Middle Easy” just really tickled me

I don’t have a screenshot for it but I got Kanagawa prefecture accepted for Kagawa prefecture, might be reasonable to add it to the block list for the meaning?

Hey there MrSuntastic. Nice catch on that one! I agree that ‘Kanagawa Prefecture’ should be blocked for 香川県! I’ll also add ‘Kanagawa Ken’ for good measure!

In the future, feel free to tag the mods for a faster response since that tag will notify all of us on the support staff, unless you want to tag or reply to me, I won’t mind! :slightly_smiling_face:

@Mods I don’t think this one should be allowed!
