Heya @NeoArcturus thanks so much for sending these screenshots our way! We typically add a word to the block list for a few reasons such as the word/phrase being an antonym, or the word having similar kanji components and similar enough wording to get through our typo forgiveness system. These look more like they could be typos (perhaps from typing too fast) as opposed to mistakes someone would make in thinking a word that was connected to a different kanji was the one they were looking at. If you come across any other examples like the above, feel free to send them our way!
Ok, thank you for explaining me how this works! I will tell you when I find something again that I think might be relevant enough to be added to the block list!
It probably got accepted because “national rent” is just two character changes away from “national debt”.
Meanwhile in Dvorak land, all the vowels are together!
It’s only two letters different from “action”, so it’s near enough for the “close enough” detector.
@Mods I don’t have a screenshot, but I typed “to compare” for https://www.wanikani.com/vocabulary/競う “to compete” and it was marked correct.
I would believe that “to compare” should probably not be accepted for “to compete”.
Added, thanks!
I actually laughed out loud with this one!!! Stink!
Here I meant to type the correct answer but somehow hit all the wrong keys:
Here I answered wrongly, but it was still accepted:
Should be blacklisted. @Mods
Hey! I will get ‘tax decrease’ added to the block list for 増税.

@Mods i fully got it wrong but i guess “publishing” is a close enough typo?
It’s probably got “publish” as a hidden synonym. That’s one of the definitions it has in Jisho.
AHHH i was wondering why i keep attributing that definition to it!! thank you
This is correct
