Nah, I looked it up yesterday or the day before, since I was curious because Jotaro is 17 when we first see him, Josuke is 16, and Giorno is 15.
Some people were really deep diving and upset because apparently Dio doesn’t have a canonical birthday. We just know he’s right about Jonathan’s age or slightly older.
Edit: Dio’s 12 when he kills his father. I used my reading skills better this time around. Although I don’t think we know specifically how much time passed between then and when he does all the awful stuff at the mansion.
Damn, I applaud you - I do not have the patience for that haha.
At the moment, this is what I’m doing:
I take an anime which I have watched with Japanese subtitles before, and that I have put vocab in Anki from. At the moment, this anime is 男子高校生の日常
One week - One episode
Monday: Watch with no subs
Tuesday: No subs
Wednesday: Japanese subs (though I try to only look at them when I can’t get it from the audio)
Thursday: No subs
Friday: No subs
Saturday: ----
Sunday: ----
So each of those days I’ll be watching the episode again, and then I move onto the next episode the next week.
That’s what I’m doing for listening. I also watch anime with Japanese subtitles multiple times throughout the week, which helps a lot with my reading too.
I have these two bundles (and some physical as well)
I’ll read the story and then listen to that Audiobook on repeat. With the added bonus that the book comes with vocab list, descriptions and explanations of phrases!
I think having the actual word connection and available list of words (with desciprition!) should further improve the process!
I was planing on listening without watching anyway, so why not do the technique without video
While I appreciate the choice of a show I think I’d go mad if I watched the same episode 60 times.
I think the value of watching it more than ~5 times is extremely marginal, at least for me.
In the past I would watch an episode twice (without and with subs). But I really hate rewatching anything (I almost never rewatch movies or shows for fun) so I eventually gave up. If I want to practice I just watch without subs and then if there was a particularly difficult scene I’ll rewatch it with subs, maybe even several times. But the whole episode - no, I don’t have patience for that.
Also, one other way to practice listening is to read the source manga, look up and learn all unfamiliar words and grammar, and then watch the anime adaptation. This way you will practice listening with confidence that all of the vocab and grammar is familiar to you.
I’m totally in. I ve tried this method while learning French and Spanish and it really helped me ( at that time I did it with Harry Potter movies and books, since I know them by heart).
For the movies, I will start today with the 1st Rorouni Kenshin.
I will learn the lyrics for , as for anime episodes I think I’ll go with Jojo Golden Wind
Ooooh, nice! Let me know how you find these stories, always looking for more stuff to add to my list
There is a real chance that I won’t see much benefit past the fifth or tenth watch either, but it’s worth the time in my eyes to find out. God knows I’ve wasted a lot more time on less worthwhile pursuits After all, 60 watch throughs is only somewhat over 20 hours! Plus my biggest weakness is real-time dissecting of what’s said. I can read okay-ish because I can do that at my own speed. I can also understand a lot of stuff if I can take a bit of a pauze or ask someone to repeat themselves, so not too bad in a conversation, but as soon as it gets to real-time listening (podcasts, videos, …) I am at a complete loss. One of the reasons I wanted to try this is that knowing what’s coming will hopefully help my brain anticipate, we’ll see whether this works
This is a great idea! I’ve only ever watched either an anime or read the manga, I never read AND watched, seems a fantastic way to cover your bases!
Welcome! Looking forward to hearing how your experience goes!
At the price they are right now, I’d say go for it! They go up in price for each added item, but you get all the future addition with no extra cost! (Tried and tested, I bought the ebook back at… 5 maybe?! Now I have all…10? They keep adding more!) The Audiobook is now 3, planned to be all 10 (at minimum), yet sold as a price for 3 (and even then low!)
I’ve collected all their stuff for years, but so far only read one of the books I have physically and some of their magazines (Cause of my own failed priorities. They are probably my nr 1 “I know I should get around to read those… maybe tomorrow…” )
But from the 1 book I have read so far (and magazines) I can 100% recommend them! I love their style!
Bought ^^ All their bundles together were roughly the price of a textbook, so couldn’t resist Thanks for the recommendation! Will be a while before I get to them, but especially curious about the history bundle!
Congrats on your new stuff! May it collect less dust than mine (And I WILL get to them! I keep promise myself =P )
I’m looking most forward to Yokai bundle, I hope they make them Audiobooks too!
I have all their bundles, all of them!
They are also my one and only patreon (at… 3USD I think? Gets me their monthly magazine)
I wish I could say the same. I collect too much to ever get though =P
Still keep collecting
I like the magazine, and having it pop up monthly makes it more likely to get through, so I have managed to read some of them =P
They also send (when through patreon) other tid bits here and there. A joke, haiku or other fun stuff. The magazine too has similar within it.
Some of the things in the magazine eventually gets collected in other books/bundles though, so there might be some overlap.
If you watched the NHK version, they have many other similarily weird ones in the recommended videos on youtube, I’ve only listened to a few, but if you’re still looking for a song to annoy your hubby might be worth checking out
Hm, if I were to do a song, it would be this one (already learned a few words through this in the past =P )
Warning: IS catchy!! =P
I used to have a version with English subtitles, sadly can’t find it. But it has the Jap sub, which is even more important. But believe old one had both at once.
