Our narrator gets the exact same prophecy from the fortune-teller, but is found by Akashi rather than Ozu right after. Capable Akashi manages to track down the fabled scrubbing brush, but Narrator won’t buy it (couldn’t he have bought the submarine model instead? I bet Higuchi would have loved it). This time it’s Narrator, not Ozu, who crosses the busy intersection waving a Ferrari flag, but Ozu still gets Higuchi the fish tank that floods Narrator’s room. And we get a detailed and entertaining description of the 闇鍋! (I definitely want to try that at some point - with people I trust.)The bear squishy toy appears as mysteriously as last time, but this time Hanuki gets it. And Narrator gets an actual piece of wisdom from Higuchi: He needs to accept that he’ll never be anything else that what he is, or live a different life. Will this turn out to be true?
Meanwhile, for someone who keeps complaining about being single, Narrator definitely actively avoids advances like Hanuki’s, and never grabs what might be opportunities like Akashi’s more vulnerable moments, because he is a 紳士, in his own words. Okay.
I thought I’d map out the search for the scrubbing brush, but I’m not sure there’s enough info for an exact itinerary. I may try later if I find the time.
Omg you seem to remember all the details from chapter 1 much better than I do ^^’ Thanks for pointing out all the similarities/differences!
Meanwhile, it’s just you and me reading along, unless other people catch up? Bit disappointing given we’re not even halfway through. Is the book too hard/confusing maybe? Or not what people expected?
We’re getting close to halfway, as you say, and it would be about time to set up a poll about possibly speeding up, but since it seems to be just the two of us I’m not sure a poll is needed. What do you think? Interested in speeding up? And is it worth setting up a poll at all?
I don’t mind speeding up (I actually read ahead a bit this week by accident ^^'), but maybe we should check what other people’s status is? Maybe some folks are trying to catch up to the main schedule? Or maybe they’re just reading in their own time, or maybe they’ve dropped the book…
Unfortunately I just was not ready for it and things in my life got super busy at week 2, so it became harder and harder to catch up PLUS already being well above my level reading comprehension wise. I am playing through Persona 5 now, but my confidence was pretty broken after attempting. I am really happy you guys are keeping up with the club and I will probably try again in the fall when my WK and Renshuu levels are up to that N1 arena. I’m with you all in spirit. ごめんね!
