This is really inspiring for me, since I’ve been in a really bad slump for the last few levels for various reasons, but I’ve recently been slowly getting back on top of things and hope to start progressing normally again soon. My goal from the start was to reach level 60 before 2020, and I think I can still manage that if I try hard enough.
Well done again, and thank you for the motivation boost.
So so proud, I’m very excited for you getting this far and being one of the Chosen Ones who reached Kanji Nirvana I’m also glad you’re a part of this incredible community, your witty comments never cease to make my day :') you officially beat Japanese and can go to Japan fearlessly now (especially considering you supplemented your WK studies with amazon.co.jp reviews )
I’ll meet you on the other side soon enough, save some cake for me!
It kinda reinforces my choice not to use scripts yet (that and seeing Koichi vid explaining why mixing radicals, kanji and vocabs is more effective learning wise).
I know I can learn faster, but I suspect it will backfire in the long run and your screenshot looks like a natural adaptation process.
I do believe that using the scripts when starting can undermine the foundation of WK learning process, for beginners like mii, anyway.
Thanks WK best friend!!! Your support along the way helped me get here, and I am glad to be part of this awesome community too! Join me soon! You are pretty much there yourself!! The gifs are awesome, especially the bulbasaurs!! There is an overabundance of cake, so much cake!
Thanks. Yeah, I agree. Probably, wait on scripts until at least level 20 or so. At that point, you can make a more informed decision about whether they will harm or help you. There is really no rush. 7 or even 8 or 9 day levels are still plenty fast for the amount of information you will be able to intake within that short time. Best of luck to you as well.
Congratulations! You probably don’t really know me but I’ve really enjoyed reading many of your posts. If I keep up at my current pace I’ll be joining you around a year from now
Congratulations @TamanegiNoKame! I really admire the accomplishment.
And a big thank you for your post! You guys who made it to level 60 are really an inspiration to me. I hope I can be as dedicated and patient as you in my Kanji study.
Also, you can try to add your own synonyms to radicals and just wait for a couple of levels and the speed should pick up and you will wish it would go slower again!!1
7 days? Woah, this is so cool! I wish I could absorb Kanji as fast as you did. What are your future ambitions now? JLPT? Japanese Pancake concours? World domination?
Thanks! Part of it is just time. The more time you spend on the front end really hammering in those mnemonics the better the kanji will stick and the faster the levels will go. And yeah, I will probably do the JLPT in a year or two when I feel confident about passing at least N2 level. What is Pancake concours? It sounds awesome. And world domination is definitely on the table and currently being considered. Besides that, I get to move to Japan soon and start a new job there so I am psyched for that.
You mention doing radicals and kanji first in your lessons. Does this mean you skipped a ton of vocab? How many lessons do you still have left? I imagine kanji aren’t nearly as useful without their matching vocab words, but that’s coming from a lowly level <10…
@Fang, you are exactly right that skipping vocab would be a terrible idea. I did the radicals and kanji first, but I always made sure to learn the new vocab before I leveled up. The vocab really serve to lock in the meanings and readings of the kanji as well as give some foundation for reading. I did the kanji and radicals first because they determine the speed at which you can finish the level, but the vocab are definitely critical to the whole process. Right now I only have the 73 vocab of level 60 left to do. I am taking one day as a breather before I begin to tackle those. Good luck with your kanji journey!
