WaniKani Content Overhaul

You’ll become intimately familiar with じゅ for 受 soon enough.
(especially if like me you have a couple meaning-related leeches using 受 )

Just remember if you THROW something at your TOE (とう), first of all, you’re a very bad PITCHER, second - you better hope you’re wearing SHOES (しゅ)

I REALLY RELATE TO THIS!!! AHAHAHAHAH

I’m a little heartbroken over the unceremonious ejection of the mullet radical. C’mon! It’s business up front and a party in the back! Of course that makes you a ひろ! How can a canopy beat that?

exactly the same happened to me :frowning:

hi. is there a way to reset only the kanji which have changed their radicals and readings?

So far I like the radical changes. Some of the radicals are now easier to remember, and even easier for the ones that the name was changed to be the same as the actual kanji.

I appreciate the team’s efforts of not only changing the radicals but finding good mnemonics to fit the kanji they affect! It must be a lot of work connecting everything together and making mnemonics that make sense, are good for memorizing, and are fun!

I would like to relearn all the kanji with new readings and (less important but still would be nice) changed radicals. As it is it’s quite hard to check each time something is not how i remember…

@anon20839864 It’s a shame that there are some completely new radicals that I have to learn even when I already burned all of the kanji using that new radical. It’s kind of a waste of time at that point.

It was pretty clear that “nailbat” will be slaughtered. It was a very risky choice to begin with. Since the original meaning is “hand”. In the first time I was very confused why the famous hand kanji is called nailbat, but I must admit the mnemonics you can create with nailbat are pretty good and easy to remember because they have some violence in it… haha  Also the look matches a lot!

I’m looking into this one and haven’t been able to reproduce it. The usual question: any scripts running? Then the other usual question: what browser and OS are you on? Thanks!

Now we have to send in any thing by email so it doesn’t appear in the public thread?? So the advertising machine is not be affected? Well that’s the side effect if you put all our community posts to the public just for advertising WaniKani. To name some radicals totally differently compared to the same kanji was not very clever. Elephant and Task really is one of those. It should have been named “Task” and you can write in the mnemonic: “what you see is an Elephant who is fullfilling a TASK”. That makes more sense, instead of naming the radical to what you see.
I really liked the sexist and racist touch of some mnemonics… haha! So much fun!! And I adopted the same style to my own mnemonics. So I don’t know which ones have changed but they were brilliant!

I did a very quick scan and I think there are only two kanji with new on readings that appear in no vocab:

39 ひか こう
54 あんず こう

So, I suppose a user that was at 60 could resurrect these two if they really wanted to learn the readings. I went back through and determined of all my previously resurrected and re-burned content that it wasn’t really worthwhile to resurrect the ones I had already previously done - some are quite high-frequency and well learned already. (I’m up through about Level 33 or so)

Would it still be a waste if they helped with new kanji in the future? (wink, hint, nudge)

Yeah, he got replaced by sheep - at least in the instances I have seen, he got sheeped completely.

Though that may be a hint about future WK kanji, I’m actually glad we get to learn new radicals even as higher levels. It helps with coming up with mnemonics for Kanji I learn outside of WK. I especially like the syrup one. Super easy to remember! : )
