[Version 1.05 | 2016-01-31] Anki deck for kanji writing practice

Haha glad you found a solution! Thanks so much for creating this. I can’t believe how hopeless I am at recalling kanji :stuck_out_tongue:

Version 1.04 is available!

Another bugfix release.

1.04 Changelog:

  • [Bugfix] Jisho.org links now work, thanks to jamesbassett’s observation a few posts ago

I love it! This hopefully will become part of my studying routine from now on.
It’s also easily customizeable - I had to remove the resources bar (because of scrolling effects on my phone) and switched to default answer side to handwritten stroke order (made more sense to me, but might change it back if it turns out to be impractical)
Thank you very much

I don’t know if it’s just me but when I click on the kanji after answer I get normal font instead of the one with stroke orders. Version 1.04. Anki on Windows.

Clean, easily-understandable code is one of the most important things to me. I'm glad you appreciate it, too :D
EDIT: Just for you, I've added a config section at the top of the front card. You can now hide any section without having to delete it from the card!

That's really weird, since there are two ways that font is accessed for redundancy. Do me a favor: go to "My Documents\Anki\YOUR_USER_NAME\collection.media". There should be a file in there somewhere called "_KanjiStrokeOrders.ttf" (heads up: there might be thousands of files in this folder depending on how many decks you have in Anki). Let me know if the font file is present.

Version 1.05 is available!

1.05 Changelog:

  • [Feature] Introduced customization variables at the top of the front card. You can now choose to hide the Meaning, Readings, and/or Resources section
  • [Feature] Higher-resolution icon for chineseetymology.org
  • [Change] Made the reading and button text slightly bigger
  • [Change] Slight cleanup / streamlining of the code

The font is there. I have updated to the 1.05 and it’s working.

I’ve only started this recently and I’ve noticed that some of the kanji aren’t exactly the same as on Wanikani. For example 船 has the table radical instead of fins. What is going on? Is this just a font thing?

I haven’t used Anki before so I’m wondering, how can I update to the newer version of the deck without losing my progress…?

I can’t seem to get the cards to display in order of wanikani level. When I set to display new cards in order they were created, I get random cards from much later levels.

Nevermind, downloaded the latest version from Google drive. The previous was from ankiweb

Sorry for the multitude of replies. (If i could figure out how to delete those, I would.)

It seems that I also can’t get the kanji stroke orders to appear. I have version 1.05. I’ve tried on 3 different platforms. My phone (android), tablet (android), and PC (win10). All have the font in the specified folder but no luck.

Hey guys,
so i just started using this but somehow can’t manage to enable the stroke orders on my mac. I tried everything i could, installed the front as a SYSTEM front ( pain in the ass on a mac), but nothing happens. what am i missing, any ideas?
Thanks!

Yup. Most printed fonts are different than handwriting and many use variations just like in English:

When in doubt, switch to the stroke order diagram which shows a handwriting font.

Just import the new decks. Anki won’t overwrite an existing note, just the card styles and media files. If you’re paranoid, you could always export your deck (remember to tick the “include scheduling data” box) first just in case something were to go wrong.

Did you ever get it to work? I have it running on two android devices with no problems, and also on my linux PC. I'd be curious to know what was going wrong.  On your PC, you could try going to the KanjiStrokeOrders font, double-clicking it, and installing it. If there's an installed font called "KanjiStrokeOrders", the deck will use it. If it works after installing the font, that indicates that the font was named incorrectly or wasn't in the right place for some reason.

Unfortunately I can't help you with this as I don't have a mac. Sorry! Your best bet would probably be asking on the Anki forums.

Hey, this is maybe more of a general anki question rather than one specifically about this deck, but hopefully someone here can help me out.

Somehow the order of the cards has gotten completely messed up. Instead of new cards being presented to me in level order, they are completely random. For example, my next 5 new cards look like they will be from levels 43, 48, 12, 39, and 51. Does anyone know how to get this back in order?

Edit: Think I figured it out using anki’s reschedule function. Crisis averted.

Awesome deck, thanks a lot!

I cannot understand where I can edit how the cards are displayed :frowning:

They are too big for my screen, and I tried everywhere - I still can fined how/where I can edit it :frowning:

Edit: found a way, nevermind

This is brilliant, especially when paired with AnkiDroid. Thanks a ton!

So, how do you do it, plz? I have the problem that the whiteboard is slightly too large for my phone screen.

Anyways thanks a lot to the creator!
