wait… according to wikipedia you can also read 日本語 as「にっぽんご」? lol I thought that nippongo sounds so wrong
God dammit Carlos, I thought the script broke again. ![]()
But yes, にっぽん is a more formal pronunciation of the land of the rising sun. Fun fact: We have a candy in Germany called that, and it has a red sun on it.
This script makes Google Sheets crash. In fact, the script itself seemed to be preventing my Chrome browser from updating but I couldn’t really tell.
It all started when I noticed Google Sheets crashing and then I tried to fix it by updating the browser. The update didn’t complete because of an error. So I disabled all of my extensions and finally got to update. After updating, I enabled every extension by one while trying Sheets. After enabling Tampermonkey I got the error again so I disabled all the scripts and began testing one by one.
Turns out it’s the Kanji Highlighter, which kind of makes sense. It was the only script that runs on every website, while my other scripts run on specific ones. Am I the only one with this problem?
My browser is Google Chrome 48.0.2564.109 m on Windows 10
EDIT: I thought of add docs.google.com/* to the exceptions, but I’d really like KH on every website, even Docs.
I’m sorry for that, I will take a brief look at this soon but I’m very inexperienced when it comes to debugging userscripts, I’m not sure if I will be able to fix it.

Just wanted to let you know that I did take a look at this, but was not able to find the issue. I’m sure it has something to do with these sites being highly dynamic and depending on the exact HTML structure or something, but I don’t know yet.
Sorry for the ignorant question here, but is it possible to get this script to run only on pages that are in Japanese? I feel like this could be possible, because Chrome knows when a page is in Japanese, but I’m not sure if that would require… having this script run first to check, which would rather defeat the point. Love this script idea, can’t believe I missed it earlier when poking around this forum, thank you for making it!

Websites usually provide language information; I'm not sure if Chrome relies on that or if they actually scan the website content. I can look into it. My exams are getting close, though, so it might take a while :)

I think Chrome/the Google webapps should work fine with Japanese, it's probably a bug in my script.json said...Turns out it's the Kanji Highlighter, which kind of makes sense. If I run the script, it pops up a "Server error has occurred" dialog. If I disable the script it doesn't happen.
Oh sorry, I misunderstood your post. I thought your “Probably not” was referring to something else!
Hello, is it still possible to use this with Chrome?
Or maybe could you please explain how to enable this script? Because Chrome doesn’t want to allow it as it does not come from their “webstore”.
Thanks
mortiii said... Hello, is it still possible to use this with Chrome?Install TamperMonkey plugin for Chrome. Then, when you try to install the script, it will go into TamperMonkey instead of directly into Chrome.

Hello, can anybody explain how to add kanji learned by other sources (marked blue)?
Thank you for the script!
Wow, this site sure has changed a lot since I last posted here. I even got an e-mail notification for your post.
Do you not have an “Add known” menu entry? If you click on it, you can insert a piece of text containing all the kanji you want to mark as known from elsewhere.
Sorry for asking such trifle, but that was my first day of installing scripts and not that long since I’d found out about them at all. I couldn’t get my head around most simple things. Thank you!
This doesn’t seem to work quite right for me so I’m posting to see if it’s an error on my end.
When I installed it, it asked me to input a level like it should. I entered 24 (my current level).
I went to NHK News Web Easy to try it out.
Kanji are being highlighted but, seemingly, incorrectly. TONS of Kanji that I know from previous levels are highlighted in yellow and even reddish/pink when I think they should be green? Do only burned items show up in green or should any kanji from the level I entered and below be green?
Edit : I think I’ve figured it out. It seems to work properly if I set my level each time I go to a new page. I’m not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to work, but even if it isn’t, this will work for me. Thank you to @looki, if you’re still around. ![]()
The kanji for each level in the script is hardcoded, from at least 2 years ago.
The level reshifting by WK since that time might mean why the “wrong” kanji for you are being highlighted.
Only had a quick look, so it could be something else still ^^
Yeah, I don’t think it’s that because only level 1 kanji were showing up green. I think it just wants me to put in my level every time I open a new page (which is fine) because it seems to work properly when I do that. If there is a way to make it save my level until I want to change it, though, that’d be awesome.
