Finished levels 1 and 2. I must say, I quite like this application. Interestingly enough, this might be one of those rare cases when the free version is actually better in some aspects than the paid one. Having unlimited keys – would tempt one to read all those stories in one go. But having to wait till the keys are being made (I like the sound and the image of the key being forged by ninja when you click on the key icon, btw) – allows you to sprinkle those little Japanese stories like spices on the main dish of your Japanese studies!

- Shinobi – Read 36% of the “Beginner” level stories. Now there can be some confusion here, because there are 5 knowledge levels in this app (Starter, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Expert), but each of those knowledge levels is also divided into levels (should have called them sublevels, maybe?), each of which contains 5 short stories; to unlock next level stories, you have to finish all the stories on the current level. Once you finish all the levels of the current knowledge level, you go to next knowledge level. When I installed the app, I was asked to choose my knowledge level – and I chose Beginner, skipping the Starter. Seing how all stories on the Beginner level I’ve read so far – seem far too easy, I could have probably skipped straight to Intermediate… Then again, reading simpler stories helps me get used to the app first.

ダダサバイバー 第1話 クリストファー・アイゼンフィールド | 週刊コロコロコミック – found this new yonkoma. I like the premise and the drawing style, but the gags themselves seem a bit underwhelming, compared to 僕のケロゴン or オレたちオレカ。
As for 名探偵コナン、I’m currently exercising the plan I came up with a few days ago that would allow me to read at my pace. However, I might not even have the time to exercise this plan… But oh well, I’ll do what I can.
It’s only a matter of time till I figure out how to transfer money to Japan anyway, and then I’d be able to get those manga volumes purrmanently

- SHION 第1話(2025年6月号) ひなしょ | 週刊コロコロコミック – tried this manga; doesn’t look bad, though I’m still not sure if this is my type of manga or not…
As for 名探偵コナン – I only managed to secure 6 volumes + the first file of volume 7 (because volume 6 ended on a cliffhanger). I should have started securing the volumes from the beginning – then I would have been able to secure all 11… In the past, I would have been very upset about failing to secure all 11. But in the present, it goes quite well with the concept that I’m only ever going to use a small part of my abilities and opportunities.
Besides, as I’ve said, this “securing” is in a grey area and is something I was hoping to avoid, which is why I first tried to read the volumes normally, but ended up being too slow.
However, then I suddenly got an idea. Even a cat in the box, like me, needs to sometimes think outside the box. So I thought: instead of trying to find a way to transfer money to bookwalker – why don’t I check whether there might be a company here that imports books from Japan? And guess what – I found one!
So, I’ve ordered a paperback version of the first volume. If it gets delivered properly – then I would order more. This way I would finally be able to properly purchase it!
So, we’ll see how it goes. I’m very excited about the prospect of receiving the first volume from Japan
Although, of course, anything can happen and the package might get lost… But we’ll see!

- 名探偵コナン。Vol. 4. FILE 1: 甲冑の騎士。
- チェインソーマン。Vol. 1. 第１話。犬とチェンソー。I’ve heard about this title, but never checked it, because I’m not a big fan of blood and gore. However, today I accidently saw the first 3 volumes temporarily available for free on Bookwalker (just like first 11 volumes of 名探偵コナン were up until yesterday) – and decided to try it. This is my first time reading it, not only in Japanese, but at all. The first part of first chapter was very triggering. On the bright side, I managed to only have a slight panic attack and only slight fit of rage because of it. This means I’m slowly getting better at dealing with this; in the past this would have been a big blow to me. But I’ve managed to get through the triggering part; the rest of the chapter was better. Language-wise, it is not the hardest manga, but the main character clearly uses some slang / dialect, but it too is manageable.
Got an email saying that the first volume of 名探偵コナン I’ve ordered – is going to be sent in October. Well, we’ll see…

I don’t know if it’s due to my progress or due to an update, but the tests have become bigger and the keys take sufficiently longer to generate. But that might be for the best, because on Intermediate level the stories are usually 10 page long (instead of 5 page on Starter and Beginner), so longer key generation time helps avoid getting overwhelmed.

Congrats on 466th day! It is a huge success. My father is 60 and he smoked maybe 40 years or more. He developed COPD and I can assure you it is very hard thing. Please don’t start again
