Torii - SRS learning application for vocabulary

Forgive me if this has already been mentioned in this thread, but I can not find it so I am posting it.

For me, the bottom of the settings menu is a bit cuttoff. I can’t scroll, nor can I resize my window (in any context of the app, which is likely fine).

If it matters, my laptop is Debian 10/xfce4/openbox window manager and I use openjdk’s jre.

No, because financial reasons.

There already is an option to include or exclude WK vocabulary when you select JLPT mode, however new words won’t appear in the order you mentioned. I’ll keep that in mind when I work on the next update, thanks for your suggestion.

Left-click anywhere in the window and move the mouse up or down to scroll. Scrollbars are hidden by default, I’ll make them always visible in the next update.

How do I type the small Katakana used for combination sounds?
Currently it’s trying to teach me “Party” but I can’t actually find any way to enter the “ティ”

Type a ‘x’ before the vowel. xi → ぃ.
For Katakana, use uppercase letters. XI → ィ.

Ah, thank you.

I like to use L myself - as in “li”. I think of it as “L for lower-case”.

This doesn’t work on WaniKani, though, which treats L as being the same as R.

Scheduled Maintenance 27/8

I’m going to put Torii into maintenance mode for some hours to upgrade the server, as announced. The app and website will be temporarily unavailable.

I’ll update this post once everything’s done.

Torii is back online.

Sorry for the long downtime, I blame the web hosting provider :stuck_out_tongue:

Torii is currently not working correctly for me.

First it showed no lessons available despite me not doing any lessons today (or yesterday since it was offline), so I raised the max so I would have my normal amount of daily lessons.

Then I tried to start doing my reviews, about 88 of them. And each time I get to do about 5-6 reviews then the program crashes, completely just shuts off instantly. I restarted it a couple of times and each time I got to do about 5-6 reviews before it crashed.

What should I do? Re-install it? Log in and out? (Can you do that? I’ve never done it.)

Slight misconfiguration in the new server, sorry about that. Your daily limit should reset the next time you log in.

Are you on Windows or Mac? Is there an error log file being created in the directory where your Torii client is in?

Audio seems to be causing a lot of crashes on the Windows desktop application (and Android app) after the server maintenance, as far as could glean from my desktop error log. @Rakantor would you like my full log?

My reviews have been going fine yesterday and today, but I’m also getting crashes during lessons on Android.

I’ll try on PC soon if it’s affecting that, too, like it is for @Calamaryllis

Yeah audio seems to be causing the crashes. @Calamaryllis I won’t need your full log, thanks. I didn’t change anything at all code-wise so I assume it’s either another server config issue or something went wrong during the transfer of the audio files …
To prevent more crashes, I’m going to disable audio until I figure out a solution.

Audio was apparently also what was crashing for me. I just thought I’d tell you.

When I try tp download the Andriod app I get “The early access program is currently full. Space may open up later”.

Can you add more space?

Thank you!

Problem solved, audio is working again.

@Majedgnm Oh sure, I removed the user limit.

So during lessons you have to do both JP>EN and EN>JP? I didn’t see an option to pick one.

On the main screen, under the purple box for reviews, there is a smaller purple box that says “mixed.” If you click that, you can pick if you want just JP → EN or vice versa.

This is for both app and desktop.

During lessons I get this tho. I thought it would give me the kanji.
